What exactly does the 'buddy' list provide?

    What exactly does the 'buddy' list provide?
    I've been adding members that i've established common ground with periodically to the list and i've been curious about what point this holds exactly, aside from a collection of usernames safely tucked away under your user CP.

    From what i can tell it really doesn't offer anything else. No notifications of recent threads created by (x) users on the list, nothing like that?

    If you look at the list of online members at the bottom of the homepage, your buddies will appear with a + by their names

    What exactly does the 'buddy' list provide?
    ^That. Its basically pointless on this version of VB. I'm assuming it was an afterthought that later got turned into something useful in newer versions that we are not running.

    What exactly does the 'buddy' list provide?
    Even on vB 4.0 and up, there's not much use, besides said + in front of the name and a nice list on your personal profile to quickly find them.
