Is it on the rise? I've seen an increased amount of "rave activity" going on lately. Such as people inhaling vicks in the mall, light shows at bus stops, and of course the top music out at the moment.

To an extreme peak, the more you inhale, the harder you roll,
    As for the rave scene,
It's been on the rise for the past few years along with hard Ecstasy use without recognition of it's long term consequences,
Oh well, that's a trend for you.

Yeah I remember back in the day, I used to inhale while spinning in circles then start dancing lol. CRAZY rush. But I think this trend may be a bit more dangerous than most trends.

I live on the west coast of Canada and the rave scene out here is pretty big. There are tons of local DJ's that run small promotional companies, and constantly host illegal outdoor raves in secluded areas that are extremely well organized. I still get invited to these events on Facebook constantly, although I have not been to one for well over a year.

I used to go all the time though. You buy a ticket at a licensed vendor, which has some information on it (including a phone number). On the DAY OF the rave, you phone this phone line about 2-3 hours before the rave, depending on where the location is, and they will give you directions to the spot from all directions (whether you are traveling north, south, east, west etc. along certain highways). When you arrive, they have traffic directors who help you park your cars to leave room for emergency exits, and to avoid people getting "stuck" anywhere. They also have fully licensed security on hand at all times, and first aid for people who need it.

Once you unpack, you walk into the rave area and they always have these massive stages & light shows set up in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, like a clearing in some logging road in the forest haha, or in an abandoned shack up on the top of a mountain property :p And its fucking awesome, hundreds sometimes even thousands of kids show up and set up tents or roll up in their cars & trucks, and everybody starts popping and drinking and dancing. They usually pack up the next morning and go, but I have been to more than a few where they go for 2-3 days straight or from Friday night until Monday morning. The music is always incredible and they showcase the best local talent, aswell as often flying in well known DJ's who are touring in the area.

These raves are incredibly fun and rarely busted up by the cops (although it has happened before). I have tons of good memories of being in highschool or just after, and planning these weekend rave trips with large groups of friends and road tripping out there with suitcases full of drugs & alcohol. Fun times! :D I have definitely noticed that electronic music is becoming increasingly popular and "mainstream" now, so raves are getting more and more organized and actually starting to land really dope venues, like massive arenas and local stadiums which will feature some of the biggest artists in the world.

A bit off topic. Orange juice helps you roll harder as well. ;)

And yeah the past few years the rave scene has become more 'mainstream'

There is one thing that has always stumped me about organized raves, though. How come the cops (not security) sit outside the doors, and watch everybody come out, when they know that 90% of them are on drugs? But, do nothing about it.

I think there is just far too many people to arrest or do anything about, so instead of harassing them the cops just try to keep the events from turning violent and keeping everybody safe. You could ask the same question when asking, "On 420 (April 20th), how come the cops sit outside the massive outdoor rallies and let hundreds, even thousands of people smoke weed publically, yet they do nothing to stop them and/or arrest them?".

Usually organized raves have very strict "no drugs & alcohol" policies on their tickets, advertisements etc. This is their way of kind of jumping through a legal hoop where they don't have to take any responsibility for people's drug use, as they claim to discourage it and intolerate any intoxicated people whatsoever. Of course this is all a giant steaming load of BS, because most often the organizers, DJ's, security, and of course the raver kids are all equally as drunk and high on drugs ;)

Good point, Zerker. It probably costs less money to hire 10 cops to watch a perimeter, than to hire a huge force to harass people individually.

But, what keeps the DEA out? Their job is to hunt down drug dealers, and an organized rave with 10k people is where A LOT of them are at. What keeps them from closing the doors and searching everybody inside?

They know your on drugs, they can't do anything about it you've already taken them ;) I think they'd mainly be looking for people fighting / distributing drugs

It is true that the drug dealing catches alot of attention, and this is why I believe many of the drugs are "snuck in". The people organizing the events surely know everybody is going to be partying, but even the drug dealing is done inside sort of secretly (I know from being there). It is generally frowned upon for the most part. Depends what fesitval you are at though... when I went to Shambhala two years ago, the actualy volunteers and organizers would actually APPROACH our camps and ask us if we needed their assistance finding any drugs. I also did see some cops at Shambhala, but they were unable to enter the festival for reasons I don't understand (they were just spotted talking to some people outside the festival grounds). So that would be a good question.

I know another reason the DEA or any other major drug enforcement task force/agency would not get involved at these raves - the drug dealing that goes on in these settings is usually considered very "small time". I imagine it would be very different if somebody died or something at the actual rave, they may launch an investigation to try and figure out who the stuff was coming from, but I really don't know. Just in my opinion, the DEA and similar agencies are usually after large scale drug traffickers, supplies, and manufacturers, and are uninterested in a guy who is just selling a few caps or tabs of acid at a rave to his buddies/randoms. They might go after somebody who is supplying all the dealers who do the street work at the raves though. Busting dealers at the raves themselves would probably just land in the hands of the local police, who as somebody pointed out above me, just do not have the manpower and resources to run these sorts of operations.

It's always been a popular scene for teenagers in Sydney.

    It's mainly festivals now though.

Raves haven't been real big where I live for since the early-mid 2000's. My brother used to go to these raves in old abandoned warehouses in the most fucking random places like Zerkerfist had said earlier. The way he described it made it sound so fucking ridiculous.

Most raves that I hear about now basically don't really get off the ground as after a few kids OD'd on MDMA they shut down any rave the second they gain knowledge about them.
