I don't care how GPA works. Grades are meaningless. I'm taking English 12, Senior ID Anthropology, AP AB Calc, AB Bio, Robotics, Math Topics (Math elective) and thats it. I know I have an A+ in Robotics, A+ in calc, A in math topics and A- in English. I don't know the other ones. Marist is over-populated for freshman boarders so they love commuters like me. So. I think I'm doing well. And I'm only applying to Marist because thats the only place I want to go. I almost defiantly won't get into Vassar and I would hate it there anyways, so if I don't get into Marist I'l go to Dutchess Community College.

Possibly USC or Cal. State. Haven't made a final decision or even close to that yet though.

    1. Not all, definitely all in the top 20 have, they look for well rounded people.
    2. Totally not true for college (undergraduate) study
    3. Incorrect, Harvard has an undergraduate college with 1600 people per grade. They also have numerous graduate programs ranging from business to law to medical etc
    4. Of course, it's called the application process
    5. 50% of students are on financial aid. These schools get over 1 BILLION in endowments a year, they don't give a shit about tuition.
    6. It helps, you certainly don't need it...
    7. That's an average, you still have to work the rest of your life.

Basically, you have no idea what you are saying.

Im a university student I do no what im talking about... and my notes are based on real life not dreams... get your facts straight dude all of those schools get applications from ALL over the world, schools in China, Japan, Korea, and India learn stuff in High school that you would learn in maybe 3rd year university and they get turned down. I know for a fact the united states unis accept 24% of their students from foreign countries however UK almost everyone that goes there is from UK..

    Basically you dont know anything.

I did my undergrad at Syracuse University and then transferred to UNC. Starting the grad program for my mSW at UNC in 2011.

I concur with your points except 7. Depending on how successful you are early, the decisions you make with your money, and how you spend your money will determine how long you work or want to work. I know many people that are in their 40's and 50's that are retired comfortably.

My cousin Brian Bower was accepted and graduated from MIT because he was active in quite a bit of extra curricular activities, on top of having a perfect education previous. The top schools, as well as all schools, look at how actively you are involved in the field of study you are pursuing, activity in community, and outside activities. Many activities you can get involved in can get you a network of people that will have connections, this is more prevalent in undergraduate programs than high school.

The more you do the more you will have to offer a College/University.

Oh. By the way. Ivy league schools are NOT the best schools in the country. Sorry. Find a school that fits you, not an ivy league school just because its elitist. At least not for undergraduate work.

Please qoute 1 thing that I said which was incorrect. I never said anything about how hard it was, I just said you don't necessarily NEED 4.0 and perfect scores. Your point about international exceptance is irrelavent.

I said you were ignorant on the issue because over 1/2 your points were factually incorrect (2, 3, 5, 6, and 7). I was not blindly insulting you out of anger without evidence, as you did to me.

Please prove something I said was incorrect before criticsizing me next time.

Of course that is true. But my point was that you can't just go to an Ivy League school and then kick back for the rest of your life and expect to be rich. You still need to work for it. That was all I was saying.

Let me give my two cents on this topic:

I have seen a lot of people dreaming big and wanting to go to an Ivy League School (Harvard, Yale, et. al.), if that is the school for you, and you have the requirements to be accepted, then great, don't read any further. This is the reason I am writing this. But don't think that because if you don't go to an Ivy League School, or even a University, that you are worse off than the rest of the world. I am going to list off some points that will put your mind at ease...

    1. If you are worried about salary, then don't. Starting salaries from Ivy League Schools compared to decent STATE schools only differ 10-20k (Ivy League Schools obviously being higher). So do not worry about salary when deciding where to go, one of the main things that comes from Ivy League Schools is the name. (It's like buying Patron Tequila opposed to Jose Cuervo. Because Patron is regarded as more elegant and expensive, people like the looks of it more. But in the end, they both get you fucked up (analogy trying to make: an education)).
    [Source: http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/top-state-universities.asp and http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/ivy-league-schools.asp ].

    2. If you are worried about finding jobs after college, then don't. My college, Iowa State University, offers a career fair each semester with over 270 employers who hire thousands each semester. They even look for hundreds of interns/co-ops as well. This is at a state school... in the middle of Iowa.

    3. Lastly, the social scene. It depends on one's preferences as to size of the school. Any school you go to has parties. No matter what anyone tells you. Obviously bigger schools + more people = bigger party/social scene. But if that isn't for you, then go to a smaller school. This aspect is all up to you.

I could go on for hours about picking colleges. I didn't even mention that Ivy Leagues cost so much more. But all I am doing saying is that you don't need to go to a highly regarded school to be awesome. You can go anywhere you want, get an education, and get a job. Period.

Probably Uni of Melbourne, which is pretty well regarded.

But hey, my dad was at cambridge, so I'll give it a try depending on what I decide to study.

I would love to attend New York University after living in California all my life. I think that I would love the vibrant life of a global iconic city.

Although my father did attend UCLA, I have no interest in following in his footsteps.

I am a freshman at Duke University currently majoring in Chemical Engineering. I love the school and I was lucky to get in (solid interview, legacy, eagle scout, etc). I went to my first basketball game yesterday, and it was a blast.

I'm not planning to attend University or College in my life. I hate studying and I don't have the patience to get a degree, masters degree, bachelors degree, et cetera. I always hear people working and studying in University and sometimes College.
