    what came before god?

this is a question for everyone, regardless of religion(unless you happen to be atheist, this still applies somewhat..). what do you think came before god?

i believe in some kind of divine power. i dont know exactly what kind yet, hopefully i will learn someday. but i do believe in some otherworldly power, something bigger than us.

the problem i always come across, however, is what came before that?

    what made that being(or beings)?

the way i see it, the universe, everything had to start somewhere. whether you believe in a god, gods, or no gods, everything started at some point somewhere. but how did it start? what made the first atom? the first particle? something must have made everything before the big bang, before the universe came into existence, but even the thing that made the first atom must have been made by something else.

so my question to you is, what came before that? im interested to hear opinions from all sides, be it your a christian, muslim, atheist, whatever..i want to know.

in my eyes, god wasnt just their. something must have came before him, and the thing that made god must have had a maker as well.

    enlighten me:)

    p.s.
i remember sunday school, as a 6 year old, asking the sunday school teacher what made god...all i ever got was "god just is". that was never enough for me:)

    what came before god?

Are you asking what came before God, or what came before the universe?

First of all, there's really no way to know for sure, but depending on your beliefs there are numerous explanations for what happened before our universe came into existence. In Hinduism, our entire universe is one of many that have come and gone, each taking place in a single day in the life of Brahman (the Supreme being who has no beginning or end). Every 100 years, the brahman perishes and is re-born to initiate creation again and again. Actually, their time scales are pretty close to what scientists believe to be the age of our current universe.
The belief in a cyclic universe isn't limited to just hinduism either. Some scientists have theorized that our universe has already gone through about 100 cycles.
It's a fascinating subject, but again, there's really no way for us to know. It would be ideal for there to be a single instance in which all existence started, but the reality of it will probably be a lot weirder...

    what came before god?

God created himself therefore there is no before god, god has always been there. You can't go before him.

    what came before god?

but in order for god to create himself, he must have been something before he created himself...that again brings up the question of what came before that?

Nothing to be plain and simple god has ALWAYS been there, just to throw this out there he could've created time himself, after all he's god..

    what came before god?

this makes no sense. how can god simply "be"? everything starts somewhere. before the universe, before anything, there was nothing. so how could god spring up out of nothing?

you have no idea how much i wish i could agree with you, it would make life so much simpler. but my sense of logic tells me that is completely impossible.

    what came before god?

To explain the believers idea, basically think God as "infinite" in everything. Something with no end or "beginning", he is not a "being" that was born. Another way to view it is to look at a 2D graph, the point of origin is the beginning of a infinite 2D world, God would be that point of origin, nothing was there before the point of origin, if there was, then it would be the Void.

    what came before god?

and that's exactly it. You're applying your own logic to something that's supposed to be transcendent of human logic

    what came before god?

i know...but it still keeps me up at night thinking about it.
how could something become, from nothing?
and there always has to be a before. unless that divine power came before the big bang, when time wasnt a thing yet..
golly gee this is interesting. any more opinions?

Im going to replace "God" By the universe. I believe there was nothing before it. Just infinite nothingness.

    what came before god?

Jude 1:25 reads, "To the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen." There's accounts of the Bible speaking "before time began" in 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, and Corinthians. So to answer your question specifically with my mere opinion, nothing came before God, re-read the bolded part towards the end in Jude. In my opinion, "and now" was symbolic for human existence rather than the time period after Christ's death (since Jude was New Testament). Again, my personal thoughts, gather from them what you will.

    what came before god?

For there to be something before god it would have to be another god. Therefor there are an infinite number of gods?

    Makes sense.

    what came before god?

    What came before existence? Non-existence.

It's not a difficult question. Existence cannot create itself because it already presupposes that it exists. That only leaves non-existence to create existence.

Unless of course you believe contradictions exist, and do not use logic; in which case, you would be per formatively contradicting yourself.

    what came before god?

I personally think God has always been and nothing came before him. I know this is unreasonable and not logical at all, but as humans we are bound to our natural way of thinking. I guess only a 'God' would be able to understand how something has always existed.

    what came before god?

Think of this question this way.

Humans have successfully created some form of microbial test-tube lifeform from elements. Would that microbial lifeform be able to apprehend who created it?

Assuming that lifeform is capable of intelligent thinking, it would have asked what came before their god, humans.

Perhaps we are just a successful creation by another super being with much more technological advancement to the point that they can interact with their creation.

    what came before god?

That is called the Zoo Theory or Ancient Alien theory depending on what crazy people you believe. Essentially you are saying that we are the animals in some kind of astronomical zoo. I don't really find that plausible, that would be like saying God created us because there is no evidence to show that.
