Religion being forced upon children in the U.S

This question is directed at public schools, which make up the vast majority of the U.S Schooling system, Please disregard any and all Religion/Private schools as they can legally teach any religion/atheism etc.

In a lot of states in the southern states, there are a vast number of errors being taught/forced upon children, in most cases illegally, that can vastly affect the rest of their life.

Alot of southern states have a leaning towards religion rather then atheism, as can be shown in stats. The majority of northern, or east-coast and west-coast northern states which make up a majority of the pop. have declining rates of religion, yet the south continues to remain stable.

There are often cases of Children reported being taught about the bible/god in public schools. This is only legal if it is 1) Optional 2) Equally balanced out with other religions, and an atheist POV. Technically speaking The first ammendment bars any public schooling establishment from forcing kids into religion classes. And the United States technically has no official religion(Look it up).

Most physics/science classes only cover proved scientific theories such as the big bang, evolution, and to a broader extent atheism for 1 lesson max, whereas they focus on creationism.

Support below if you agree, Or if you have a different perspective please let us know.

Should it be exposed to them so that they are educated enough to make their own choices? Yes. Should it be shoved down their throat and punished for not subscribing to the ideology? No.

They should become familiar with it at a young age, so that it's not a totally new topic later in life. Once they come to the age where they can make informed decisions for themselves, then they should have the ability to choose whatever without fear of retaliation from schools, churches, and parents mostly.

I'm completely secular, the bible should only appear in a classroom for study, not a method of recruitment.

Children have very wild and creative imaginations and cannot make logical decisions as easily as adults. Whilst the majority of religions have no issue with you dropping your faith once you realise it's illogical. Some do, resulting in death in most cases. Teaching a child a lie and making them believe it's true is abusing a child in my opinion.

Given the significant role religions have/currently play in our society, I definitely think they have their place in a school curriculum (I think it was something like 80% of the population subscribes to one faith or another?). The Bible in particular certainly has immense value both as a work of literature and a work of history.

But creationism needs to be kept out of the science classroom, period.

I went to public school in Alabama and my school didn't have any religious leaning (aside from a short prayer at some events).

Worst case scenario, you might have a really religious teacher at a public school, but the curriculum is secular. Not that you really learn anything in public school anyway.

When I was in school (UK) I was taught about all/most religions, more Christianity than the others. However I still remain atheist.
From the information I gather from experience, the ones who are religious tend to be the least educated. That could be coincidence though...

It's sad they actually forcefeed this like it's food..

Children are highly worshiped being that have entered our realm, we should treat them that way! They should be running the world.

Actually, I don't think that's true at all. I've never once seen public schools seen religion being taught.

I think religion should be introduced by their parents first before it can be misconstrued by strangers at school.

What the fuck are you smoking dude? I live in Texas and am Christian and they don't teach anything biblical anymore. They teach the big bang and evolution as standard procedure and if you ask a teacher their opinion about it (more or less asking their religion) they don't answer because of all the pinkies who get offended about other's opinions and then they get tattled on and fired. I wrote an essay titled "Third-Wave Feminism: The Downfall of America" and got a 100 on it. I asked my teacher what he thought of it and he said it was well-written but he didn't agree with what I wrote. I tried prying an answer out of him and he wouldn't budge for fear of offending someone. They teach liberalism and progressive ideals in school and people flame you if you don't believe it. You get flamed for being anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-lgbt, and every other hot topic you can think of. I know of a teacher at my HS who actually tried to pull some BS saying that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was actually a metaphor for the struggles suffered by gay people in America.

    /end rant

tldr it isn't forced on children and you are either a moron for believing it or very misinformed

I've went to school in the south-east states of America and if someone so much as hints at a religious reference they're looked down upon and scolded. Seen this happen in both Georgia and SC countless times. In southern CONSERVATIVE states.

Religion is not being forced on anyone.

Hmm. I guess it's unfortunate our nation was greatly influenced by Judeo-Christian beliefs.

Could say those being "very misinformed" is almost just as bad as believe "We came from a few specs of bacteria, then morphed into a little rat, then evolved into the dinosaurs, who evolved into apes, who involved into humans".

You are retarded if you believe one or the other lmfao. Topkek.

    -

Every child has a point in their life when they take a step back and look at their lifestyle look at the facts of everything do their own research etc... So what they are born into a Buddhist (Example) house hold? Once they reach a certain age nothing stopping them from doing their own research. I don't think a very strict Buddhist family is just gonna raise a child without taking it to the temple (Not sure what they go to / use so excuse me on that) or something? I have... never... seen any family do that to their child lmfao.

So done with these vaders making the most retarded threads then getting banned without even being able to speak for themselves.

Instead of worrying about "Religion being forced upon children in the U.S." Why not talk about having decent morals and not taking advantage of people online for your own personal greed? Lmfao.

I had the same experience as Xier0.

Not once has any teacher in any of my high schools or middle schools talked about creationism. One of my US History teachers actually mocked the bible and told one of my friends to put his bible away saying that it is " One of the Best selling Fiction Novels of all time" (Paraphrasing)

If anything is being force on our students, it is the liberal beliefs of the new age progressive bunch. I went to school in a very conservative area, yeah the general vibe in my highschool was conservative, however if you were a teacher you couldnt share your beliefs, let alone teach about the bible, or any other religion. All it takes is for one whistle blower, and then your career is out the window. However its okay for them to push anti christian, and anti conservative beliefs, ive seen it happen plenty of times. I think exposure is good, then students can make their own opinions. At the end of the day, what they hear in school isnt going to make or break them, theres alot more to a kids life than school, foremost being home life, what you experience at home has a more lasting effect than what teachers preach day in and day out (for the most part).

    good

    examples? (i don't believe you)

The only problem with this is that if you teach the bible in school and some students already believe it to be a non-fiction book there is a major bias and the "exposure" turns into propaganda really quickly.

For the same reason church and state are separated the church and education should be separate. If you want the bible taught you are also agreeing that other influential religious texts are taught with the same tone and filter.
