How do different cities hip hop scenes compare?

I'm from Washington where it seems like every week there's some big new local hit. Lately these artists have really grown out of the Northwest:
Grieves
Sol
Macklemore
Blue Scholars
Cunninlyngluists

Do any other cities have a scene like Seattle?

 

Not heard of any of them, I'm from an area called Nottingham which is located in East Midlands in the United Kingdom, pretty much the English culture does have a rap scene, but we call it Grime, it's 140bpm, here is an example, tell me what you think.

The scene in Korea is what I think most people would call whack and retarded.

The "rappers" use overused melodies and phrases.
An example of such phrases are "chyeaaaah," "it's one for the money, two for the show (they don't even know what it means,)" and etc.. I see no originality here.

They're just wannabes who gather like dogs when they see an actual black man.

But the bboy scene is pretty dope, Korea has multiple crews that are famous and recognized world-wide.

Washington definitely has a good hip-hop scene. I especially like Grieves and Blue Scholars. I'm from Atlanta and I'm real into Southern Hip-hop, especially Memphis, Houston, New Orleans and Atlanta. A lot of good rappers have come out of Atlanta and definitely some bad ones too. Only a few artists do I consider true ATL hip-hop though with that real southern style.

 

cunninlynguists are actually a really good group. but yeah, different scenes and sounds from the different areas. i guess it's the differences in the social culture, for example, the north island and south island of new zealand are so different. although they are in the same country, if you are a south island native the north island will feel like an entirely different country. i'm a fan of eastern hip hop as well as southern hip hop. i know what you mean with the different cities scenes though, i notice it a lot with all the damn rap/hip hop i listen to.

Love northeast rap. Mac Miller out of Pittsburgh, Sam Adams out of Boston, Jedi Mind Tricks out of Philly.. And many more, of course 50 Cent. New York has produced a lot of great rappers.

I saw blue scholars recently.

Not to start drama, but NYC/5 Boroughs over everywhere else. Atlanta/LA/Chicago/Seattle etc. have good rappers/hip-hop culture, but 1990's New York City was the epitome of hip hop.


Rap is constantly changing. I think the time period is just as important as the geography (in terms of effect on culture)

I stay in atlanta too and these really are some good artists to listen to if you want to get a hint of the south. The south really came up in the hip hop scene as far as creating its own style and reinventing music so to say. Rap itself has came a long way. People have shaped and formed hip hop to their own likings and region. Thats whats so good about it, it can connect with everyone. But if you really want to get into southern Music listen to Outkast, 8ball and MJG, UGK, Lil Boosie, Devin The Dude, Big KRIT, DJ Screw, Master P, Goodie Mob, Lil Wayne (his old music of course). Theres a lot of other artists i can name for days but these are just a few off the top of my head.

 

Hell yeah. They're one of my favorite groups. You're the first person I've met that knows who they are. Those are all great artists also. Finally someone who likes southern hip-hop as much as me

Where in Atlanta are you at?

 

if you say cities, the people of Baltimore are proud of Baltimore Club Music, and D.C is go-go it depends on city to city, and they culture they accept.

Don't know how these kids manage too maintain their image without getting completely destroyed by the media.
