Fuck, I Got My First Ticket/violation

I help figuring out what to do here. I dont want to pay or go to traffic school, so I have two options: A Court Trial or a Trial by Written Declaration.

Im not even sure how much this ticket will be because they havent mailed me the fine or whatever yet. But I know this is bs and any amount they send me, I wont be able to pay this off because im 17 and dont even have a job. I dont want to tell me parents either or they will take away my driving privilages.

They timed my first picture at 07:52:40 and the second one at 07:52:41. So the camera snapped a picture of me apparently "failing to Stop at Red Light" one second after or something. Ugh, this is my first ticket ive ever gotten since i started driving a year and a half ago. I need some advice whether i should dispute this by going to court or by writting a statement/appeal...fuck i cant believe this, im even willing to pay someone to try and help me get this to disappear.

 

Was there a sign that said "No Turn on Red"?

And it looks like your rear stop lights were still on. Did you just fail to stop before the pedestrian crossing? If you did, that is still a ticketable offense, so don't back yourself on that story.

If there was not a no turn on red sign, you can base your story that you stopped, and proceeded with caution because you were legally able to.

 

O M G. thats the thing! Ive seen everyone stop there on a red light and waiting until it turns green before turning right. B U T there is NO sign saying "no turn on red"@@@@@@!!! So like everytime im behind a car thats stopped in that same spot, im like wtf go moron you can turn right on red lights. so idk....

 

Well there are certain areas that you can't turn right on red, I honestly don't know the exact conditions but my grandmother recently got this exact same ticket in the exact same type situation and she was a truck driver for a few years and have been driving for 35 years. You can go to court and you can waste your day and you may get a judge on a good day and get them to let you off with a warning, but there is still always the chance that you won't.

If you want to take your chances in court, I would back your case up on the "No Turn on Red" sign not being there. By law, if the sign is not visible, you DO NOT have to stop there. Like Nero said, there may be exceptions, and since you live in some part of California, I am not sure if the exceptions would apply. If you want to deal with the hassle of going to Traffic Court, I would go. But if you can't be fucked going, I'd just pay the fine and have it be over.

 

I would go to court, anything is better than paying the fine right? Im from the UK so don't know much about the US road laws. Sorry I couldn't help you and hope it goes well for you.
