You could have it visible, but if you're holding it and actively brandishing it you will probably get the cops called on you. Brandishing a weapon is illegal in any state.

Not illegal to have a gun, it is your property, now when you threaten someone that's when things change.

 

Not where i live. If i ever saw someone sitting on there porch with a gun i would call the cops in a second. I don't care if you're on your own property. Its unsafe and that is how dumb accidents happen. Just like the girl who was shot for looking like a skunk at a HALLOWEEN party.

Varies from state to state, you would have to ask your local gun organization or something along those lines.

But, you're just asking for trouble, you're basically baiting someone to come to your porch so you can point the gun @ them or scare the shit out of them.

A guy in Wisconsin shot a vandal that was on his porch, even though he was protecting himself and his property, he's being charged with man slaughter.

Should be charged with second degree murder. You're not allowed to defend you property with deadly force (in most, if not 99%) of states - unless you have sufficient reason to believe your life is being threatened. Getting your house egged or TPed isn't life threatening. Most states require you to leave your house if someone intrudes into it rather than using force to protect your property. That is for general welfare. You can replace a TV, Laptop, or other expensive item - you can't replace a life be it yours or another's.

What's crazy is the fact that they allow guns to be sold people who are going to use them to "hold off Halloween vandals". A simple note on your door or even rudely ignoring the doorbell or knocking on your door would suffice.

Nope. There are many many many states that do not require you to attempt to get away from someone that has broken into your home. If they are there you are allowed to stand your ground and shoot their heads off. If they are not in your home then this does not apply unless they are obviously threatening your life and you have no way to escape (unless you are in a stand your ground state like Florida in which case you can just shoot them if they threaten you no matter where you are).

 

If you sit out there for that purpose, then you need to seek help....

if you lived in certain areas of alabama or arkansas you could get away with that and most likely more..

 

California is the LAST state I'd do that in, some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.

Here in Florida though you could do it with a mini gun.
