Way To Many Sections

So I thought with the new rule reform, I would mention something about the new "sections" reform that was made. There's way to many sections I can tell you that, I'm scrolling down and have to bypass 10+ sections with minimal activity to get where I'm going.

So I'm suggesting that you collaborate multiple sections together in order to get rid of the impossible length of the forum, and to reduce the annoying scrolling you have to do every time you go to visit the home page. It wouldn't be hard, and it'd bring more users to those sections, because they'd be going there knowing they'll find more than just one thing. Instead of having Minigames and PKing" , widen the topic and make it "PVP". In the coding section there could be a few changes, however I don't know how it will go down with people that generalize in that area. Say instead of having all those sections, just have "Programming Discussion" and "Coding". Again these are just ideas, feel free to elaborate on what I just said.


Please don't shoot this idea down because I have a low post count and not very known around here. I think many users share my annoyance with the length of the main page. Please leave this open for discussion for at least a few days.



Feel free to make suggestions, reform the main idea, mention sections that need to be merged, and your feelings toward the length of the main page.


I'll make another thread later on if this gets enough posts and leave it up to an admin/moderator to approve/deny them individually

There are a handful of sections that could simply be stickies instead in the RS general sub-forum - rue

 

Minigames and PKing is not really PVP at all, it's primarily dicing clans that use that section. If you use this button it will collapse the category so you don't see it. I use this for Rules & Donation, for example.

 

Yeah it's be nice to just collaborate all the sections that aren't as active still. A lot of members don't like it, and it's kind of an eye sore. Not only just for the viewing things, but just for the sake of making sections more active. Collapsing sections doesn't help anything, it just adds to the fact that the section shouldn't even be there. I know Minigames and Pking is not PVP, but it would be better to make it PVP, it would get more action than just dicing clans using it to promote there clans. A new section just for dicing clans might be a good idea because that's all I really see in that section. None the less there should be some sections collaborated to reduce the length of the main page, without using alternatives like collapsing sections.

 

So you say there are too many sections so you want to split up Minigames and Pking into two sections?

Also, what sections exactly need to be abolished in your opinion? Generalizing gets us nowhere.

 

There are indeed too many sections, but you need to give specific examples of what needs to be changed, what SPECIFIC sections need to be combined/removed. Making general comments do not help the staff in deciding what option to take.

 

There is alot of sections which don't specificly apply to me or have much activity but I believe they should stay for the community who do use it. Also collapsing the category does solve most of the issues

It doesn't bother me, as it reminds me what other parts of sythe there are (occasionally I check them out)

 

There aren't too many sections imo. I enjoy the variety of content.

Literally nothing you said has anything to do with what I was saying. I'm not here to argue, so quit trying to.

I simply made this thread because I've seen loads of complaints about unactive sections and the length of the main page, and I wanted to get peoples opinions on it.


One of the things I found might be helpful was to have a "Question and Answer" for some of the sections, and that would eliminate 2+ sections right there. Instead of having 3+ extra sections under the markets, you could merge them into one section, and give it a generic name. I would definitely check out a market sub-forum where there was Gaming/Guide Sales/Non-Game and Digital Goods/Other Sales all in one sub-forum, as to going and looking at each individual sub-forum.

Also, don't spam this thread. I mean what the fuck do you think that's going to help anything?

 

I think putting XBOX Clans & XBOX Screenshots and Videos in XBOX General wouldn't be too bad of an idea -- then put XBOX General in Other Games. XBOX isn't a game, but what you discuss in that subsection is games (a total of 422 for its own section).

That's just me; I doubt anyone would agree.

 

I enjoy perusing other sections on sythe If all I had to read was runescape forums, I wouldn't be online all day

 

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I agree with you that the xbox sections have minimal activity, and are some of the sections that should be merged.


Also @ Grod, I can see where you're coming from, however that wasn't really the point of this thread. I don't want to delete any sections, I swear!

 

I'm just gonna say this right now, people complain and want sections, we add them and then other people say "oh there are too many sections." Personally I think there are WAY too many older RS sections with minimal activity.

 

The title of this thread is way too many sections and so you suggest to add another one. I don't know what your problem is with me (noticed in your dispute I got a lovely 2 mentions, thanks babe) but if you didn't understand what I was saying then perhaps the suggestions forum isn't for you. To suggest something to happen you must actually state some direct things you think should change instead of making a generalization and saying that there are way too many sections.

What do you want me to say to that? It's 100% wrong, go back and read what I wrote and then think before you post. I didn't say I wanted to add more sections than there already was, but adding a "Question and Answer" section to the appropriate places, and deleting a few similar sections, would leave the forum with about 2-3 less sections. This was a place for people to say what sections they thought might need merging, or they're opinions on the length of the main page. If you want to rage take it to the spam forum, because the only one that's raging right now is you.

Cool your jets Sparky, in all seriousness allow me to elaborate on what I personally feel that you're stressing. There are a handful of sections that could simply be stickies instead in the RS general sub-forum. This is an excellent idea in my opinion as the typical post that occurs there happens once every few days or so.

It would eliminate the xbox discussion altogether and merge it into other games which I think is pretty reasonable.

Otherwise in my opinion DjWeasel's suggestion is the only one with merit.

I can't support your suggestion Athlete for this reason.
You propose to split up Minigames and PKing into PVP and a new section for Dicing.
Let's take a look at the front page of Minigames and PKing.


I didn't screeny the three sticky threads as they were of not importance. Aside from the stickied threads there are 20 threads on the page. 4 of them are not related to dicing while 2 of these 4 are in the wrong section, the video is in the wrong section as per what the sticky says: Pking videos should be posted in RS Pictures & Videos.
A better suggestion in my opinion would be for the Pking part of the Minigames & Pking section to be taken out and it could just be discussed in Runescape General and pictures and videos of kills could be placed in RS Pictures & Videos.

 

Nah, wouldn't work. Directing more activity away from that section isn't answer. That's actually the opposite of what I'm trying to do. A dicing section would be good, although it wasn't my main focus, it was just an idea that popped in my head when you said the majority of the Minigames and Pking section is dice clans. If you want to see what I actually want to do, look under the suggestions/complaints list. If there were to be a "dicing section" implemented, I would make it just "clans" so it wouldn't be limited to just dicing clans. That section has the 2nd to last amount of activity, so I believe widening the topic to "PVP" would bring more discussion there, as well as leaving it open for the things that are already there. So yeah, either "PVP & Minigames" or just "PVP"

 

The sections is just fine and they are not to many and i believe we need more sections and stuff which i'm going to suggest in near future
