    Was Segregation really unfair?

Hi, I am but a simple man who tries to study and observe as much as he can. Recently, I ponder the question whether segregation was really unequal.

We are always told it was in fact “unequal” and the main example to prove this was the comparison of white schools to black schools. Where, the white schools would have better equipment and newer books and the black schools would have old equipment and old books. People try to tie this as "unequal". However, where does a school get its money? It comes from taxes of the people who attend the school. I think it is fair to say, at least at the time, the average white earned more than the average black. If this is true, that would mean more money from whites went into the white schools and less money from blacks went into the black school. Therefore, the reason for difference of equipment and books was due to the fact the white school had more resources in their budget and could spend money on the best they could. Likewise, if the black schools had less money in their budget, they paid for the best they could as well, though, it was not as top-fit. So, were there truly unequal conditions? Would it be correct for me to say, because my neighbor has a pool in his backyard and I do not, these are unequal conditions? Hardly the case, the moral is people make different money and can spend accordingly. It is no surprise one with more money than the next will have more things and nicer things. Thus, leads me to say, without question, there was nothing unequal about segregation in terms on the environment of schools.

This is in no way ends the argument of segregation. There were more things going on then just schools. The purpose of this argument responded to the general argument that because the schools were in different conditions, that meant things were unequal.

If I accept the premise that blacks earn less than whites then:

    You are still wrong.
The school gets the money from the government. The government gets the money from Tax Payers. The government does not say, "Hmm this is a black school and black parents earn less so we'll give them less."

"It comes from taxes of the people who attend the school"
Rubbish, I could live in Montana and pay taxes for your road in Illinois.

Your argument is invalid simply because thats not how it works.

I'll end this with a joke.

What is white on top and black at the bottom?

It was illegal for a black to go to a white school even if he or she lived in an area with whites who went to the white school. That is not fair.

I do thank you for your input "malakadang". I will attempt to research more to see if I can combat.

But was it not the same, illegal for a white to go to a black school? It was just how things were.

Try empathy. Imagine you were black in the 50's and banned from using white water fountains, going to white schools etc. You'd probably feel injustice because people were banning you from all these things soley because of your race/skin colour. Do you think that's fair? How about we segregate all redheads tommorow simply because they're redheads. Seem fair? No. The only people that should be segregated in society should be criminals etc for obvious reasons. At the end of the day we're all human.

what your saying is it is ok to bring a whole race of people to our country with no training except for some farm work and no money except for the little they may get and then blame them for not being able to support their children as well as people who exploited their hard work for profit.

    gee, this is messed up.

    PS.
if we had equality, black people would be given just as good a chance as white people at a decent life.

I find it very funny how all the white people dont feel they need to level the playing field, in terms of money and power, before declaring themselves in favor of equality.

your idea of reality is so fucked up it actually hurts my brain to try and fathom how someone can think this, aside from a white supremacist prick. Blacks DID earn less because of the lack of equality and work conditions. Not because of lack of skill or strength. If Black men had of been able to get jobs it would have been fine but due to SEGREGATION this was nearly impossible. Explain to me how it is justified that the children of the rich should be treated better than the children of the poor ?

These people were given the raw end of the stick at every opportunity. The adults couldn't get anywhere even if they tried and the children were disadvantaged from the beginning. I all honesty i still believe racism is one of man kinds greatest flaws.

This is absurd! Blacks got worse equipment than whites because they WERE treated unequally. Fuck tax, blacks were treated as second-class citizens.

Here's my theory sure maybe whites do pay more into the system and get a little less out but I think from an eithical standpoint that every kid deserves a chance at a good education this includes up to date books equipment and good teachers. Why because that way they have a better chance at a better life for themselfs.Ya I get it life isn't fair but if the government can spend a little less on say a wall between us and mexico and spend a little more on the United states future generations then we will see a better life for all of our kids in the future.
