Red Hot Chilli Peppers - one of the greatest bands of all time?

Would you declare RHCP one of the greatest bands of all time? It's not very often you see a video on youtube with 25.8M Views, 125k+ Thumbs up and troll-like 800 Thumbs down.

Personally, I am not a great fan of their new release music, much more their old style, late 90's through early 00's.

 

Red hot chilli pepper will always have a place with me. Idk if i would consider them one of the greatest of all time but i still love what they did.

 

They're good, but I wouldn't say "one of the greatest bands of all time".

 

I would rank in the "Greatest of all time" category. Although I haven't really gotten into the stuff they most recently put out, they're still one of the few bands that can claim to have a truly original sound. Not only that but they almost consistently put out excellent material for nearly two decades.

id include heavy metal bands but they dont carry the same kind of following ect..

 

They've dominated mainstream charts for some time. All throughout the 90s, and just when you think you can't get enough, they creeped into the early 00s with scar tissue, by the way, can't stop, etc. Great band with an obvious talent for making appealing music, but as said above, they probably rank in the top 20 for me.

I mean this is a pretty good list of bands I'd take over the chili peppers, although I would remove nickleback (come on even their fans hated them tbh) and linkin park (I just don't like them, especially now) and replace them with, duh, Zeppelin and the doors

 

Errr, no. Doesn't strike me as one of the greatest, at least. If someone said name 50 legendary bands they wouldn't even cut it.

Definitely my favourite band that is currently making music. I'm still upset I couldn't make there concert when they came to town last year..

 

Considering "greatest" is dependent on your preference, you can't really determine that. I would definitely say they are among the most successful and popular bands of all time, as shown by their longevity and originality.

 

I like tool/linkin park/shinedown/nickelback a lot, but rhcp is so much better, cmon dawg

 

Wouldn't their success, popularity, uniqueness, longevity and relevance make them technically "Greater" and superior other artists? Sure, Katie perry might have had her karaoke all over the radio 3 years ago but who will really remember her in 30 years in the same way as the Chilli Peppers. This is like comparing Zeppelin to the monkees and saying the monkees are greater, or superior, or even to par. It's BS. Fuck "preference", the "Greatest" can be determined by various factors about/through the artist's career. There is a reason a lot of the 'greatest artists of all time' share a lot of the same high ranks, because those people are obviously greater.

 

RHCP will always be special to me, especially after seeing their Slane Castle live set on DVD, heaven!

 

I think UB40 were very good.
