VPS Help

Can someone please explain to me in detail what a VPS is, how it helps your botting, what kind of things does it help with etc.

See I've been botting on my laptop for awhile. I have 3GB of ram. But I've always only been able to run 1 bot at a time. Even at that I get EXTREME amounts of lag due to my internet connection and poor graphic support.

So What I'm looking to find out is if, a VPS can help me and what type I should go for.

Any and all help is appreciated and a special thanks in advance.

 

A VPS will typically be hosted on a large powerful computer (server) collocated or rented in/from a data center with an allocated amount of bandwidth (100mbps, 1gbps, 10ge).

A VPS will allow you to have your bot running constantly, on a dedicated connection, on a dedicated machine.

Only some of the time are VPS's cost efficient. Most cheap VPS providers oversell their services (Anything is oversell-able, don't believe other.) - Which means they are offering more than what's available.

You will probably need at least 1GB RAM VPS to run 1 bot well on. For windows this could average at least $40 if you order from a GOOD provider (Nothing offered on here, no photonvps/yardvps crap either.)

For 1-2 Bots I'd shoot for at least
- 1GB RAM
- 2 CPU Cores
- atleast 1mbps down (Quality providers will probably be on a 1gbps connection, hah.)

Cost efficient option for serious mass botting operations would be to buy a cheap server on ebay, such as a rackable(brand) and collocate it in a budget data center, such as FDCServers.

Also, While looking for a vps, stay clear of the OpenVZ VPS's (This is a form of virtualization), It doesn't work happily with java, and is almost always "oversold". Try to find some Hyper-V/Xen/Kvm(<-- Again, More virtualization technologies) VPS's.

In a less technical description: A VPS is essentially a computer that you rent and can connect to with a VNC viewer (Kind of like TeamViewer), so you can then setup your bots on that computer and it will not use your computer's resources. You can then exit out of the VNC viewer and the bots will continue to run on the VPS regardless of whether you're connected to it or if your own personal computer is even on!
