    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

I am typing from my phone so this may look weird. Sorry if my grammar is horrid, english isn't my first language.

Anyways.. How do you people accept that God doesn't exist?

Besides the meaning of your life that you assign to it.. How do you accept that one day you will be nothing? If you were to die today.. What would be going through your mind?

And one more thing; why not just end it now and skip the pain of life?

To me it sounds like... In the end.. You did all you did for nothing.

The reason I'm asking these questions is because I am losing faith in God and I don't know how to accept the alternate.

    Thanks.

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

I don't understand why people are so scared of the truth.
I choose not to end my life because in my mind, I only have 1 life and I want to live it to the fullest. I don't think about life after death, nor do I plan on it because in the end I won't ever know.

I'm not scared of the truth, I just find it hard to accept that this existence has no meaning. If so, what's the reason to continue living?

People use god as a comfort.. it makes your life easier. It also makes you more of a shelled person because you restrict yourself to doing things that will please him.

Just because there's nothing after life doesn't mean you should waste your life by committing suicide. Life is about having a good time and improving the quality of life not only for yourself but for those around you.. find someone you care about.

If I were to die today.. nothing would be going through my mind. I'd be dead. Derp. If you live your life thinking it's your last day you're going to be an unhappy person..

edit: the meaning of life is to have fun and enjoy it while it lasts. You don't need god to hold your hand every step of the way, suicide isn't immediately an option just because you realize science > god

Meh, i've been an athiest for nearly 4 years now.

I see religion as just another thing to burden us from the real things.

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

Try asking the meaning of life when you're having an orgasm. It seems to me that you're not happy. That's really the only time people ever pound their heads into the question. Life is meaningless. It is.

Now, look at how you say it. Nihilists say it something like this:

    LIFE IS MEANINGLESS

Do you say it like that? I'm sure you do.

    Now, compare that to:

    Life is meaningless.

Point? There is no point. Grow your self knowledge and find your happiness. I want you to research Atheism to a reasonable extent. Be sure about it. Don't be a Agnostic that rapes themselves mentally again and again and again.

Also, if you really want to know how I reached conclusions, visit www.freedomainradio.com and listen to some of his podcasts. The Anarchism stuff isn't essential, and you might not always agree with him, but the stuff actually helped me. Be sure not to become a groupie of his though, and take everything with a grain of salt.

Pretty easy...don't think about it because there is nothing to think about.

If I died today, nothing would be going through my mind except "Why didn't I eat that last slice of pie..." And I will not be nothing...I will be food for some organism that will decompose me and continue living its life.

Who said life is painful? Did what for nothing...? Live? I think not, I live for many things. For example, America, Wendy's, Macs, Steak, etc.

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

How do you accept that a plate of food is empty? You try and eat from it, and when your hunger is not quenched, you'll know the plate is empty.

I find it comforting to know that one day I will die. It makes me less fearful, and allows me to live my life to its fullest.

If I were to die today, I would be sad for my family, but happy that I finally get to die. A lot of things goes through a persons mind as they lay dying, and I think I'd be excited to cease to be.

Because of my family. Though I want to kill myself, and just end it, my mother asked me not to and I'll respect her wishes. But I do have fun regardless, I simply want to kill myself so I don't burden someone else with my death, and I don't give someone else the pleasure of killing me. It's about autonomy with me, not depression over my pointless life.

There's not much pain in life unless you believe life as a chore/task. If you accept life as just is, then you can easily skip the 'pain of life'.

We did all we did because we did. Though, in the end, it will not matter, that is true, and though the journey there is pointless in a sense, take comfort in that fact, don't reject it.

I could go to prison, eat shitty food, be around filthy people, and hate my life until I die in a cage... or I could embrace my life and just wait for it to end one day, and hope for a nice, comfortable death to put an end to a nice, comfortable life.

It's as simple as that :p. Don't try and over complicate it. With eternal life, your life is pointless as you're already going to live forever. Sure, you have to obey God's laws, but in reality, this would just be a small stepping stone. People who don't cherish life can't be very good people, now can they? ;).

If you can't accept the alternative, sink into it slowly. Do practices with various things like thinking about different stuff in your life, and evaluating it. Think about how we've evolved, what we're capable of, where we're going as a race, etc. Don't fear the end of your life, but think for your race and do for your race.

In the end of the universe, when time ceases to be, none of us will exist. And that is when life is truly pointless... until then.....

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

The purpose of life is to continue life. Consider this: insentient animals such as insects continue to do their job for the ecosystem. Why? It isn't benefiting ONE insect in particular, but their race will continue regardless because of what they do.

As a human, you have sentience. You are self-aware. You are aware that one day, some how, you will indeed die. You don't like that thought, so you find comfort in the idea of a deity who will bless you with an afterlife; that your conscious self may continue. If you find no reason in life for yourself (for which I personally have found many), find one for others. Personally I live my life how I want to, free from religious and social constraints. I enjoy my life because I enjoy the activities I participate in. Other people I know enjoy their life because they know they're helping others.

Just because you realise that God may not exist, do not make yourself a Nihilist. Find your own reason for life. Nobody else can give you one except for yourself. You assign value to your own life, not us, and not any God or deity; if you assign that value as nothing, then you will undoubtedly be unhappy with your life.

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

Forget your beliefs, become neutral in the matter. Look at both sides of the argument. Then it is obvious that god does not exist. How do i accept it? Because it's reality, the sooner you accept it, the sooner you start living your life.

If I died today, nothing would be going through my mind because I would be dead. I accept it through acknowledging the fact that I am here by very unlikely chance. I should enjoy it will I can.

Life isn't really pain. Although it is essentially pointless, killing yourself would only make people in your life sad (family, etc).

It is for nothing. Just enjoy life while you are still conscious and can perceive things.

    Atheist: I have a question or 2.

I find it pretty easy to accept something is false when there is no scientific evidence to support it's existence. Answer me this, how does one accept that god does exist?

That's a complete non question, if I was a believer in Christianity, Hinduism or the Flying Spaghetti Monster I would still be nothing after I died.
If I were to die today, I would hope I gave as much as I could in my life for myself and for others.

I'm not going to give you some idiot response along the lines of suicide is the easy way out, nor am I a counsellor.
But think, if you kill yourself, you are going to inconceivable nothing, you will never feel anything again, think anything again or be anything again.
I personally comfort myself with the idea of dying by hoping that the actions I have done for other people and the world will live on beyond my death, and give my life some kind of meaning.

Well see I've looked at both sides of the story.
I've seen most people deny God and/or Christianity because of something in the past, old testament, or even because "everyone else is doing it.
It's rather ignorant to just see "the bad" on a subject.I'm not here to convert anyone;I'm just stating my point.
It's rather numinous that we are here for absolutely no reason.Everything is made with a reason.Think about it.
    Examples:
    Joined Sythe.
    Why?Wanted to make money
    Made a TV dinner.
    Why?Hungry
Made a whole in the wall
    Why?Because I was mad.
You get the point. Now saying such thing as "Uhhh where here to live and then die" is just plain retarded.

It doesn't give me comfort, I don't even have a religion. I just believe that someone out there created us and I leave it at that. I don't care if there is or isn't an afterlife because eitherway theres nothing I can do about it, might as well just go through with life and find out in the end.

It's hard to accept. That's why people turn to religion and strive for purpose in their life. It's called death anxiety everyone has it do what you can to come to terms with it, but it helps not to believe in lies to cover it up.
