Scientists building "star" on earth, for energy.

    Is this exactly practical?

How much does it cost to maintain?

What are the chances of disaster?

If this all works out, it could a massive step to "free energy" aka nuclear fusion. I hope the fusion can last more than 1 sec :D

    This seems a 'tad' extreme.
This heat could do extreme damage when near our earth for so long.

I'm with Mr Smith on this, i don't see how that can be safe for our earth, our sun seems to damage the planet enough when it's god knows how far away..

What were the scientists smoking when thinking of this? Why the hell do we need a "star" when we have the sun?

    It's about time.
I learned about this possibility in my physics class recently, but didn't really believe it was feasible.

A tip of my hat to the people at NIF.

Jeeeezus, crazy scientists. Who knows what will come next, they'll probably try to recreate the big bang which could result to black holes.... oh wait....

This partially reminds me of this:

It reminds me of it in a way that you may be saving something, but the money/energy that goes into it is most likely far greater than what your conserving.
