    Violence in Video Games

Hey guys i'm doing an assignment in English which is a persuasive speech on anything to do with Pop Culture. I chose to do violence in video games. Most of you guys are thinking "Theres barely any violence in video games" well thats what i think too, so i am all for violence in video games. So if anyone also agrees with me, please state why and also if your against me, as it would help me in writing about it for English. So far i have thought that:

The violence in a MA15+ video game is far less than in a MA15+ DVD therefore dvd's should be the main focus and not video games.

Most people judge there beliefs that games are too violent based on one of the most popular games called "Grand Theft Auto". GTA is only one of many games which should not be used to describe all games.

The games are designed to cater for the individual not the general population which is why there is such a large variety, if you don't like the violence in one particular game, then just pick another.

People say children should not be exposed to such games, well in fact, they aren't. There are age restrictions on games, its up to the PARENTS to not buy these games for them. Watching the news is more violent than most the games anyway.

Some games are even educational, take for example Assassins Creed. It happens to be the most historically accurate game and is set in 1191.

Video games for most people are an outlet for anger unless ofcourse your on a real tough stage then it just increases your anger ;).

It is human nature to be entertained by violence, look at the colloseum, purely violence made to entertain the citizens of Rome. Also theres football, boxing, ice hockey, all of these are sports with violence in it and they all draw the biggest crowds.

A game is different to watching a movie, you can control a game. In a game you can take a hostage and splatter their brains over the wall or stomp them, you are committing a violent act and you get a pleasant vibration from your controller as a reward lol

ROFL... young adults in this day didn't grow up with such violent video games, these are recent. Worst there was then was Street Fighter and such lol.

Anyhow I agree, there are game ratings, and people should follow them. The same goes with movies. I've seen parents take their toddlers to R rated movies all too many times.

True, but how many people do you see walking down the street with a controller pulling off combo's to attack you. If a kid felt like doing violent stuff since he did it on a computer game then he'd just as likely to walk down the street with a controller.

Take the movie 300. Rated R. Take the game GTA. Rated M. So, for the kids that want to see that movie or game, they need an adult. Any adult. What if it's their.. Lets say, uncle. Is it the parents fault? No, it's the uncle's. It not ALWAYS the parents fault, as you can see.

So it's not the parents fault that they don't know where there children are going with other adults? They should pay attention.

What if he was buying them a gift, but they weren't with him, and they got it for a birthday or something?

It's still technically the parents' fault for not checking what the gift was.

BS, Look at stats when GTA3 first came out gun crimes actually went done. It not the games it the person, it helps get angry out. They just need to know the difference and be mature.

Also, I have almost all the violent games you can ever get for XBOX like all of the GTA, Halo 1/2, Unreal Championship, all these rated M and PG-13 games that contain violence. Do I go running shooting pistols at everyone? No, I don't. When the faggots in court say, "Oh, it was the video games..", that's just bullshit, because if you have self control, you can play those games without a problem. If you're a goddam maniac, you outta be put in a place where you can only play things like "Teletubbies".

Lol, I'm in no way saying that those scientist guys should blame violence on video games. I completely agree with you saying it's wrong for them to say video games cause kids to do violent things.

And for the record, I'd like to play a Teletubbies game. Teletubbies = hawt

Maybe it was a coincidence? I don't know much about what happened when GTA3 came out but when GTA:VC came out only one guy murdered someone because of the game. Some retard killed 2 police officers and 1 civilian because thats what he felt like doing. He is obviously the exception.

For the record, it is the parents fault. Cruel__Machine is exactly correct.

Also I thank everyone for posting, didn't think people would since it has a lot of typing on the first post, most people don't bother when they see that much lol.
