Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

Where is the name sythe derived from?

Why did he pick a .org name?

He branded it incredibly well and has great success from the .org, but that's incredibly rare to use such an extension as .org and brand it to a gaming site.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

Maybe because it's a Non-for-profit website? Not a commercial one?

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

No, sythe is not a non-profit business.

PETA, FEMA, organizations like that are non-profit businesses.

It isn't non profit? Why do you think there are ads on Sythe. The only person qualified to answer this is Sythe.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

I don't think you understand what a non-profit organization is. People market and use .org's all the time as there is no restrictions, however the TLD itself is designed for charities(what a non-profit organization is).

Just because you are NOT profiting(i don't know if he is or he isn't) doesn't mean it's a non-profit organization.

I was just curious as to what the origin of the sythe name is.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

Every forum needs to make a profit. This is a profit business. Profit forum, I should say.

For some of the things, yes I'm sure, but do you honestly think Sythe runs this site off of his own pocket?

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

God no, i'm almost sure he does.

But the term NON-PROFIT means charity, not whether or not your business / website is succeeding or not.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

    There hardly is.

It was just originally designed differently and has changed drastically over the years.

    But it gets complicated.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

Pretty sure there are no qualifications for a .org domain, he probably just chose it because it was cheaper or it sounded better.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

I know, there are no requirements for that TLD.

But it's not a very popular option.

I'm also curious on where the name "sythe" is derived from.

Question - I'm sure it's been answered before

I personally think that sythe.org is better then sythe.net or sythe.com. Just has that... Flow to it. Maybe he just decided to name it that, and it went big? :p
