Suggestion: Disable "Users viewing this forum" in marketplace

Reasoning: Usually in the mornings i browse med to high level accounts mainly window shopping. I've removed my discord ID from the side panel of each post and my profile because a few times a week I get scammers adding me on discord, one of the first ones said "Hey, I saw you were viewing the high level account section" and present a scam of an account without giving me any sythe account associated.

Sure, you could remove your discord like me. Just a suggestion.

 

No support, while I think the message behind your suggestion is a good thing, when doing deals, especially off-site aka on discord, it's very common sense to check who you're dealing with.

 

To play devils advocate against @Techie post, I am a firm believer that security features should not be donation perks/incentives. This is something that could prevent users from being scan targets. I think it should be available for everyone.

So, support allowing everyone to hide their viewing status, no support to remove entirely though.

 

I do not think I support this due to the fact of checking unique discord ID or having the person message you on forums.

I do support what IGotOwned was talking about because everyone should have that function.

 

That's my concern here.
I'm curious how many actually get these messages, or if it's just a coincidence/uncommon thing.

 

I used to when i was newer but last couple weeks been quiet.

 

I don't know if it is actually common but due to you being a $200 donor and having some vouches you aren't a very good target for scammers like that. Most likely none of the people that are new to Sythe and don't know how to trade safely, who would be the actual probable victims for stuff like this are gonna post here so the votes are gonna be skewed towards it not being a problem even if it actually is.

 

This has never happened to me in all my years of being active in the market.

But I do agree with igotowned in that security features should be accessible to all.

I believe all the other benefits that come with donating 5 dollars such as donor lounge, icons and larger avatar are still incentive enough to encourage 5 dollar donations.

No support on removing the feature entirely.

 

What are your thoughts on this?

 

Yeah, I'd be curious to know how prevalent of an issue it actually is as well. I'm assuming it doesn't happen frequently.

With that said; what's the benefit of having the ability to hide your viewing status as a donator perk if it isn't security-related, though? IMO, making it available to all would be worth it if it prevented even one newcomer from becoming a scam victim.

 

Yeah, I agree. I think privacy and security run hand in hand. More often than not, they're synonymous.
I'd venture to say that the scenario you gave about vaders is more rare than what @FKN Jake suggested in his initial post.

As it stands [specific to your comment about vaders], what's to stop them from donating $5? They'd then be able to hide their viewing status. Again, I think this is even more uncommon than OP's suggestion so I don't think it really matters. Point being that vaders being able to hide their viewing status rarely ever [if ever] solely provides opportunity to scam.

Just trying to make the point that the security/privacy pros of being able to hide your viewing status outweigh the cons, because I believe that it does.
