What are your thoughts on this?
What should be the minimum age?
Should you be required to have a parent's signature if under 16?

I would say 16 year old with the permission of at least one parent.
    And 18 years without it.

It's my body, I shouldn't need permission from others. I know plenty of places nearby that don't ask for permission (yes I know it's illegal).

I agree with Skele. I would love to be able to get a tattoo but need a signature from one of my parents. I would love to bypass that, but am too afraid with the spread of diseases in Denver. Three shops closed in the last month =(

no matter your age you should be able to do what you want with your body. Some people choose to cut themselves others choose to pierce things. Tattooing should be able to be done no matter the age, as long a you want it. i got my first tattoo at 16 though, on my birthday with my mom.

I know some of you will say why would you want someone who lets say is 12, to choose what they want on their bodies for the rest of their life?

Well if a 12 year old wants a dragon blazing fire on a cat tattoo'd on their back then let them get it. Now if they want it removed because they figured out it is not what they wanted, let them pay for that also.

Oh right...So you are saying that when you are a dad and you find out that your 9 year old daughter is having sex for money you are completely fine with it right? Since it's her body and her life >_>

If you want a tattoo you should be able to get it regardless of your age.

I'm pretty sure a 9 year old girl would very quickly figure out that she does not want someone's penis in her.

Stop before it is considered spam.

Thats the whole point... There are rules because not everyone that is <16 year old knows what is right or wrong until they get older and then they regret what they did.

Ok first of all, their is a big difference between a 9 year old girl and a 16 year old guy. So you really shouldn't be even comparing them in the first place.

During a person's teenage years they begin to find out who they really are, and begin to evolve into an adult. With this being said, the teenager deserves some space to make his or her own decisions. And idk why but I'm getting the feeling you think that everyone who gets a tattoo regrets it the day after.

your talking extreme measures. If my son or daughter wants to mark themselves or get piercings fine. Just don't complain when you don't like it later on in life.

    Gender is irrelevant.

Bottom line is that the option is there but you need permission. 16 year old decides he wants a tattoo because he/she thinks it will be badass. Then a few months later they get one more, then a few weeks later a couple more.

Then in a few years they grow up and realize how stupid they were for getting all those tattoos, and if they want them removed they have to pay out the ass for laser removal to get rid of them.

Yes it is extreme but sometimes people fail to understand why there are age limits to things like sex, drinking, tattoo's etc, etc.
But in the end it's the exact same thing.

No matter what his/her age is?

You will only get biased answers. This is like asking a 15 year old if 15 should be the legal drinking age.

Personally, one of my friends who is 18 currently got a tattoo when he was 17.
It was alright. I think it is fine for anyone underage to get tattoos as long as they have permission from their guardians/parents. Not allowing them to have tattoo is like stripping of personal freedom. Think about it this way...A person's body is his/her to use/deal with so he/she can do whatever he/she wants with it...

I absolutely disagree with the opinions here. Tattoos are a life-long drawing on your body. The only way to get them removed is by laser, which is painful and leaves a scar. Also, most of you underestimate the cost of a tattoo.

The person in question should be required to have both parent's permission (if available) for the tattoo, and must be over 15 to be allowed to have one at all. Once 18, one can do it without permission.

This argument is stupid. If not allowing them to have a tattoo is a strip of their personal freedom, then so is every other banned substance. Weed/alchohol, violence, knives. It's for the well-being of the child in question.

If kids want to be idiots and "permanently" paint their body at a young age cause it looks cool, let the be retarded. Won't learn any other way.

It may be stupid, but it is theirs to deal with. If they want to die early, want to live an extremely terrible life, so be it. If the world is perfect, no one will ever learn. The kids need to see real examples of those who screwed up their lives in order to learn the shocking truth. There is no learning to be done if they were just told not to do this or that.

    This.

Tbh.. I think tattoos should be 21 to have. When people have almost completely matured out of adolescence and stopped completely changing. People are still changing dramatically at even 18.

    16 with parent's permission.

However, you need to realize that plenty of places refuse to do 16 year olds whether or not it's legal in that area. They just don't want to permanently scar a kid.......they're smarter than that.

Also, it's an issue of doing something that dangerous to a child. They don't want to risk their business over a rare sale.

Not too many 16 year olds get tattoos on a normal day.
