[Tutorial] How to find, download and install driver updates. Just 2 easy steps!

Hello everyone and welcome to yet another tutorial written and illustrated by my computer and me. This time I'm going to be bringing walking you through a simple tutorial on how to find, download and install new or preexisting driver updates for your computer. Please follow along and give me some constructive feedback if you feel its necessary in the end. Thank you for reading and I hope you all enjoy!

What can this tutorial possibly be used for? Well, the possibilities exceed my typing patience and vocabulary but I can give you a couple popular reasons. In my opinion, the most popular reason for you to complete this tutorial is that by updating your drivers on your computer you can increase its overall speed. This includes downloading, uploading, opening new windows and running multiple windows at once. Another great reason for doing this would be to fix any broken, infected or outdated drivers you may have installed on your computer right now.

For this tutorial I'm only going to be running through a general update and installation. You may tinker around with different search terms or downloads to find other driver packages that you may want to install later (i.e. graphics drivers for the gamers on older computers).

    Step One:
    (all highlighted in green)

Lets start off with the website you need to go to to select your computer. This isn't the website you'll be using for the whole tutorial but it does house a large list of popular computer manufacturers and links you directly to their driver downloads pages. Right, now lets go ahead and go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx and select your OS (operating system), computer type and make. Read my notes marked with an asterisk (*) below to learn how to find the OS, make and model.

The page will look like this:

Once you've selected the OS, type and make click "GO!", scroll down, then follow the link to your computer's manufacturer's download page.

Scroll down until you see the list of manufacturer's and their logos. Like this:

The page you will come to differs by what type of computer you have but they all will have some general selection boxes such as the one in the picture below. Here you must select the model of your computer. My manufacturer's selection page looks like this:

*If you are unsure of your computer's make or model you can find out by going to Start > My Computer > View System Information (on the left hand dropdown panel).

The window that opens should look just like this (for XP users, other OS may differ slightly but will contain the same information):

    Step Two:
    (all highlighted in yellow)

Now select to view the page that has driver downloads. This will bring up a list of new driver downloads, updates to existing drivers and patches to fix bugs that may have been found over the years that you've had your computer. The Gateway page with the driver download link is pictured below:

Anyone reading this tutorial regardless of OS, computer make or model can effectively follow the guide word for word up until this point.

**Exact instructions from now on are for Gateway users only. Other manufacturer's software may differ slightly. It is still possible to follow along if you do not have a Gateway computer, however; you may need to use different methods to reach the same place as this tutorial describes.**

On the driver downloads page there will be a link to a driver update finder (pictured below). This is used to find new updates and patches to your drivers in order to make them more effective.

Download and install the gtwupd.exe (Gateway Updater) then open it. Use it to search for new updates for your current drivers. If you find one that you believe will speed up your computer or increase its functionality, install it and post what it did and how you like it so that other may see.

In addition to downloading the update finder you may go back to the previous download page listing and select individual driver update packages to download from the site without using the updater.

Well everyone, that was my tutorial on how to find, download and install driver updates on your computer. I hope everyone liked it and it helped to fix your computer problems. Thank you for reading my guide!
