I may be wrong but someone told me it's like a first come first serve. If i go there with my finger cut off and then someone comes with a gunshot wound I'll be treated first is this true?

Any steps closer to Canada's healthcare system are good progress :)
I don't know for sure, but that sounds incredibly unlikely. There is no reason that that would be implemented.

I heard this might mean being accepted to medical school will become easier to due to the reimbursement rates of the government will put doctors in debt.

Say a doctor spends 40 dollars to make a patient better, the government only gives them back 20 dollars.

It depends when you both came. It will most likely be the Gunshot that'll be treated first.
    1) Because they're near death.
    2) Because they'll be driven by the ambulance.

I don't know how it will be in America, but here in Canada we have a specialist (or something) that gives you a full check up to see if your illness is in urgent need of care. If it is, you wouldn't have to wait that long.

The system isn't perfect, but it's better than being turned away for being uninsured.

Good, a step out of the dark ages for America.

Universal healthcare works, more or less, in almost all of the developed world.

    America needs this.

I think that America is one of the few rich states with such a bad healthcare.
    That's an important step ^^

So it makes insurance more affordable cool, but the cost of receiving treatment stays the same? Someone is losing money here, and I also love how Pelosi and Obama shoved this down our throat when there are slightly other pressing matters to attend to. And all the back door deals that were made, coincidental? Maybe, maybe not.

For example, what about the withdrawl of troops from both wars? Thought he said troops would be out by August? No such plans are in effect...or the closing of Gitmo? That hasn't happened.

I think he said the troops wouldn't be taken out until next year, or something like that.

How does Health Care benefit us? Isn't it just like insurance? =|

Canada has universal healthcare and it is a failure. People wait months even years to see doctors and get treatments. Goodbye freedom.

It is Health Care Reform, not Health Care. We are fixing a tremendously fucked system.

I'd say it's good game America because weather you visit the health care facilities or not, you're still going to have to pay $10,900/yr per person tax. or $27,500/yr per family.

That's more costly than current basic health insurance. So In my opinion, once again an issue is voted before it's even read.

You're still free to pay thousands if you want to, but for most people universal health care is a lot better than no health care at all.

What you're not understanding is that it's not Free.

It'll cost more in taxes to have this nationalized health care than moderate health care costs at the current moment.

    Congress clears health care bill...

Yes, everyone will have health care and I think it is sick that people with conditions are turned away from hospitals because they cannot pay the bills; but you have to realize what this means for us! This 2100 page bill, which no one has even read, has some devastating effects.

First Problem: "In 2014, everyone must purchase health insurance or face a $695 annual fine. There are some exceptions for low-income people." -CBSnews.com

Yes, this means everyone is required to own health insurance. There are some exceptions for low-income people? Umm... Who's going to be paying for that? Look in the mirror! It's going to cost us approximately one trillion dollars over ten years.

Do I think it i unfortunate that a hard working man with heart disease will be turned away because of the outrageous hospital bills? Of course. But there are charities for these things. If someone truly believes in a cause and wants to help out, then they should donate to a charity. Not take money out of our paychecks.

But even if you are a happy-go-lucky, world peace craving guy who wants everyone to be dandy and safe, look at the other side of paying for peoples health insurance. We have to pay for the people who fucked up their lives with drugs/cigarettes. Say someone is put on the streets for blowing all their money on cigarettes and has lung disease and now needs treatment. I don't give a FUCK about that. I don't want to pay for you. You chose to screw up your life and now we have to pay for it? Where is the sense in that? There is help for people like this (for example, AA for alcoholics), so don't say "they're hopeless, give em' a break." I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that feel the same as me.

Second Problem: "Employers with more than 50 employees must provide health insurance or pay a fine of $2000 per worker each year if any worker receives federal subsidies to purchase health insurance. Fines applied to entire number of employees minus some allowances." -CBSnews.com

This is an enormous burden on companies. I do think it is a great idea to require companies to provide health insurance, but I really don't agree with the fine. Some companies, especially in these economic times, are not doing too well. If the U.S. decide to fine these companies who are barely making any money, it's a huge blow. The fines could eventually put the company into bankruptcy which could mean two things. 1. 50+ employees are put out of business, which is something we definitely don't need in the economies current state. 2. The company gets bought out by a much larger company, which aids in the expansion of power-hungry companies.

The health care is going to damage this economy more than anyone can comprehend. I realize this forum is littered with strongly liberal people, but try to see past the "YAY! Everyone gets health care" side of it.

I don't like it at all. Our family is very healthy. He use an HSA account (Health Savings Account) put a certain amount in each year and if you go over it we pay a % of the cost. If we don't use it all, happens every year, it transfers over so we have savings if something big happens. This is cheaper and more efficient for healthy families.

Now we will be paying money in taxes for a program we won't normally use, but because we are paying for it, we might as well go to the doctor for any little thing. I'm sure many families are think this and it will lead to crowed doctors and long wait. This could lead to people making appointments before they are sick just in case they get sick. Then you just cancel if you are still healthy. System won't work
