    Foo Fighters - Everlong (Drum Cover) Opinions?

    I stopped playing drums some months ago, because I didn't feel like I was improving, I don't know whether I have, let's say, potential. Any drummers out there I'd love some feedback, as I'm self taught and have never had a drum lesson in my life besides watching Youtube videos.

    I just have a basic, CB Rock Kit for anyone who is wondering.

    • 22" x 15" Bass
    • 12" x 9" Mounted Tom
    • 13" x 10" Mounted Tom
    • 16" x 16" Floor Tom
    • 14" x 5 1/2" Wooden Snare
    • Zildijan ZXT Titanium Series Cymbals (14" Hi Hat, 16" Crash, 20" Ride)
    • Paiste 18" Wild Crash
    • Sabian AAX 10" Splash
    • & a Tama Iron Cobra Power Glide Double pedal.

    Sorry about the low quality, borders and quiet bass drum. I had to convert the video to upload it and it screwed up, but you get the idea. I don't have a seperate mic for my bass so it sounds quieter than it actually is.

    It's pretty amazing that you did so well without a real drum lesson :O, how long were you playing before the break? About the song, i'm not a drum critic, but from my novice ears, it was pretty damn awesome. The only thing I would change/fix up is at around 1:45 and 2:45 (though that may have been the recording sound quality). Something about those crescendo parts just didnt seem right, but overall, your cover was freaking fantastic.

    Nice job ;)

    Remember this song from rockband. The drumming is nearly identical, but sometimes you have the tendency to drum faster than need be, but the drumming on the song is pretty intense and has a lot of beats. In all it was good and you should keep going.

    Thanks! I had been playing 2 and a half years prior to stopping. I agree with the parts you pointed out, I tend to get carried away a lot xD I will try and sort that out in future :} Cheers man.

    I find it quite hard keeping up and tend to get tense and go faster than necessary, timing is a big thing I need to practice. Thanks a lot :}

    A good friend of mine is a self taught drummer and he can play some very intricate rhythms.
    You shouldn't give up on it just because you feel like you aren't improving. There were times when I felt that way about the guitar (self taught, been playing for 7 years), but I kept playing and practicing all the time until finally I began to develope a playing style I was comfortable with. Patience and diligence are key!

    I thought your cover was actually really good, though as you said above, your timing could use some improvement. Even then, there were hardly any mistakes that I noticed.

    It might seem to you like you aren't improving, but if you continue to practice hard, in a years time you'll look back and realize just how much better you've gotten. (at least that's the way it's been in my experience :p)

    I'm not much of a set drummer myself, but I am an 9 year (mostly) self taught Snare/Hand/Pitched Percussionist, so I will try and give my 2 cents anyways.

    From what I'm hearing in the video, your biggest issue is slipping up when changing drums and it's causing you to get off time. I think in that regard you might actually do well with an instructor, if not temporarily.

    If you enjoyed drumming, you should continue doing it.

    Thanks man. I just wanted opinion so I could have some motivation to keep going, and it seems I've gotten mostly positives, so that's great ^_^

    P.S, Nice to see you back ;D

    Yeah, timing is my biggest enemy. Particularly in this song because of the tempo. It's what I'm working on :}

    Thanks for the feedback guise ;)

    You're a great drummer. You have a natural rhythm, and keep in time without making it look good (as I'm sure you know, one of the points of being a good drummer, is being able to draw attention to yourself).

    Your fills are great, and inventive, and fill well without drawing from the song.

    tl;dr You're awesome.

    Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it ^_^ I've never really asked for an opinion on my drumming before, so I was a bit apprehensive to say the least - I don't like criticism. But mostly feedback's been positive so I'm super glad. Just need to work on timing and I'm good so far, I think. More complex songs to follow xD

    From someone who jams to this song, sounds pretty good but you need to clean it up a bit try playing it more with the feel of how you're comfortable not so much just mimicking the song it seems like that's what's throwing your time off. Just work up to it.

    Also that ride cymbal needs some love I didn't see that thing move once, I don't think

    The only reason was when you're playing by yourself and receiving no feedback, it can feel as though you're not improving and just staying at the same level. it gets pretty boring after a while, but with some criticism at least I have something to work at ^_^

    Thanks dude, I am working on it! ^_^ Yeah, I agree, I need to just relax and make use of the kit!
