Is rap starting to become original again?

The new American Gangster Album by Jay-Z surprised me to say the least, it was actually really good. In fact some of the best rap music I've heard in many years. Is rap starting to turn from these Soulja Boys and other wannabes to some real rap? Anyone else have an opinion on the album who is a hip-hop enthusiast. Meaning if you hate rap GTFO.

Being a hip-hop enthusiast, I'm sorry to say I haven't got this album yet because i was disappointed with Jay-z's recent stuff. But if you're giving it a good rating, i'll go have a listen.

Personally, i lost my taste for Jay-Z over the years which is why i didnt buy his latest album. However, I still think that hip-hop is going to survive because there are still a few artist out there who can make a decent song without the repetetive lyrics about chains, girls, & money. Not to mention many undiscovered young artist trying to get signed to a label. Although Jay-Z is pretty much a has been i would still give him repect for makin a decent album.

I was too, but this album was setup at a listening booth at a store, So i listened, and it was surprisingly good. They talk about actual large scale drug dealing, which is basically the main theme in American Gangster so it goes along nicely.
    EDIT:
Here are some of the songs I liked:
    Fallin'
Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)...

A long time ago, I listened, and enjoyed hearing RAP music. But over the year's, alot of want to be rappers came out, and I stopped listening to RAP, personally I think that EMINEM was a great succes but then he joined D12, which was stupid, next he made a few songs with 50 CENT, who lets face it, is a gaylord. He cant rap for shit, and sucks with his lyrics.

Just ad a single letter to it, "C"

Rap will always remain stupid, unless it turns into rock.

Dude just because they dont listen to rap it doesnt make them faceless nobodies in fact it does quite the opposite because people who listen to rap are the faceless ones songs repeating themselves over and over talking nothing but drugs violence and misogony. So you sir are wrong and before this gets turned into a flame fest dont bother responding because I am right.
Second I am now rating because I dont like rap music its my opinion that I hate and my brother plays it constantly so there switch to something worth listening too.

Guess what your rock music is all about drugs sex and violence too, Strawberry fields forever - Beatles, Its all about an acid trip, Bodom Beach Terror - whoever sings this awful pile of garbage, talks about people being stabbed, and dying in a pond of their own blood, Any generic rock song out now - Any generic rock artist, sex sex sex and maybe a hint of sex. They got complaining about bad lifestyles too, a direct rip from all the rappers complaining about life in the ghetto, rock is unoriginal and faceless, they stole the image from rap, and used some nicer words and all you kids follow it. You are about as right as a left hand. I didn't ask for your stupid biased opinion about a song that shows promise for rap, I asked for old school rap fans, now take your rock and add a c too the front and youll get crock which is all rock is is a pot of crock.

Ya I liked that song too, all of the songs kill soulja boy and the other trash, although I'd rather hear them then some rock song.

Sorry to say but for every good song/album/artist that comes out there's about 4-5 shitty ones. Say, for every Lupe Fiasco there's Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, Mims, and Shop Boyz. Annex, you should download Lupe Fiasco's new album called The Cool. It kills the shit out of any recent album. Clever lyrics and all. Some of my favortie tracks are "Hip Hop Saved My Life", "Intruder", "Superstar" and "Dumb It Down". Defiantely worth the download.

I'm sorry but I cant stand rap anymore not that i enjoyed it much back in the day (did like several songs though its a joke now though, same repetitive things on every cd and same thing over and over every song and his cd was no different from any other. to me rap died at a long time ago, and will never be as good as it was back in the day

i think rap is getting way better, there are better beats and sometimes meaningful lyrics.
i like artists like lil wayne, taio cruz, young buck, c-ride, casely, there are many others i haven't mentioned. There are still some wannabe rappers but those are getting lower sales then the better rappers.

    You didn't overreact at all.
You are aware you're posting on a FORUM, right? A board where all discussions are open to express your opinion (within some limits). If you can't take some contradictions to your topics, I suggest you quit the internet. You are in no place to express your opinion on rock, as you aren't expecting people to express their opinion about rap, in a thread about rap. lol. Quit being a hypocrite.
Get a taste in music and I might actually give a crap about your uneducated opinion.
Rap is gradually degrading to mere pop now anyways.
So yeah, have fun listening to a dying genre of music, bye.
