Unbelievable..

Ever since the most recent update, RS has been as laggy as ever for me.

A mod has already confirmed that JaGex is working on the lag issue, but does anyone have any tips on how to eliminate lag for the time being?

 

Dont run multiple applications? Thats all i can say

 

I've been having the exact same problem dude...

Personally, I downloaded Game Booster and it helped a little bit. Just clean you computer, run CCleaner, delete your temporary internet files & the Jagex cache that your computer creates. Then load up game booster, which works by closing all unnecessary processes and making sure your computer is in top shape.

The only solution beyond that for the time being is to play in low detail (if you don't already) and play around with your graphical settings. On high detail, I found things were slightly better with textures and scenery shadows set to OFF.

I get lag spikes all the time know... But most the time i am fine. Mines laggy most of the time because my mom and sister both stream netflix when im trying to play.

 

Theres post in rs forums by jmod. Read it under technical bull. Its guides how to lose low fps. Helped me.

 

run in safe mode (or lowest detail) in fixed mode. i get zero lag playing that way

 

If you're using a laptop make sure the power settings are at maximum performance.

Bottom right tool bar > Right click the battery > Power Options

 

Low detail- game booster- close un needed processes- defrag your computer once every few weeks

 

Run CCcleaner, lowest game settings, don't use very much CPU.

 

Defrag your computer. I can't tell you step by step how to do it because there's an icon my computer that I just click to do it, but ask someone how to defrag your computer

 

You may already be doing it, but play minimum graphics and play in fixed mode.

Upgrade your computer. I'm running a 2600K @ 4ghz, I have 6GB of Corsair Dominator High End Gaming RAM OC'd, a GTX 260 SLI and I completely rape Runescape. I get like 600fps when v-sync is off.

 

Lower detail if it becomes a constant problem. A trick I use is to load your quest and task tabs by clicking on them, you'll get a small lag spike which I find lessens the other lag spikes (not proven, just what I think helps). Close other background applications as well, maybe check to find out what's running in the background on your PC as well. You might find that logging out of skype and other messengers while playing rs will help loads. Fiddle around with it, Update thread with what helped the most as well please

 

How do I check on background applications? I'm not the most computer savvy .

Try Java 6 update 31 and Java 7 update 3, one may work better for you.

There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of both available. The 64-bit version will only work with a 64-bit browser, but I've found I had good results with Java 7 update 3 x64 on "Waterfox" -- An unofficial 64-bit version of Firefox.

And, if you haven't tried Runescape's downloadable client, it might be useful.

Best of luck. I have terrible lag too, but after switching javas and playing on Waterfox, I get about 20 fps now -- up from around 8 fps.

 

sadly alot of runescape has the same problem that you have here, what i suggest is not running alot of things at once, usaully that cures the problem, also staying away from crowded areas, like popular minigames, grand exchange, ect. hope this helped!
