Trade Limits in "Free Trade" System

To those who weren't active in the Black Market during Free Trade, here are a few important notes:

    1)
A detection system will not fix anything. Even if Jagex had the most advanced detection in the entire MMORPG industry, it would not stop throwaway bots. They would still be profitable. You really don't need to make much $ per bot for it to be profitable. The costs per character are EXTREMELY low.

Also, bots are very hard to detect in MMORPG's. Despite Jagex's claims that they have this amazing detection, the fact of the matter is that their detection was better in 2007 than it is today. And guess what, in 2007 bots ruled the landscape. So detection will do NOTHING to stop RWT on low level bots.

    2) Jagex banned a large portion of players who had unbalanced trades in 2007. Not only sellers were banned, but buyers as well. Permanently; no appeal. It didn't matter if you said it was your brother / friend, etc. Now, do I think they will be perm banning buyers in 2011? Hell no, Jagex is making this update to gain more customers, not throw customers away. Their bannings will be MUCH lower, if any, to buyers. Sellers will likely be perm banned often.

    3) Jagex pledged a War on RWT in 2007 and beyond. For them to have no restrictions would be a complete admission of defeat, and really would make them look stupid. If we truly believe Jagex has no ingame ways to prevent the damaging RWT of low-level bots, then it is probably a sign that they are throwing in the towel on this entire initiative.

I'd like to say I expect more from the company than that, but at the end of the day it's Jagex. They made the entirely retarded decision in the first place to implement the Trade Limit system, without recognizing the long term impact. For a company making the amount of money they do, they have an astounding record of incompetency.

It seems that in 2007, their egos were so inflated that they figured they could make money no matter what they did to the game. They thought that decreasing the quality of gameplay wouldn't have any impact in the long run. They treated their client base like a bunch of fools, going as far as to say the Trade Limit improved the quality of play in Runescape. Finally, 3 years later, they figured it out.

The MMORPG market is extremely competitive. If your product decreases in quality, your customers will head elsewhere. It doesn't matter how successful you were in the past, people in this day and age forget about you within an hour. If you want to stay at the top of the pack, you need to be providing the best product and value. Jagex sacrificed this just to keep the risk to their company extremely low. No stolen credit card issues, no lawsuits. Once again, their inflated egos led them to believe that their customers wouldn't notice, and would just keep feeding them cash.

I think this is an important step for the company. They are finally restoring the connection with their players, and listening to their requests. They've realized that they make mistakes, and have made many in the past. For someone like myself, who has been involved with Jagex games since the beginning of the 2000's, all I can say is:

    "It's about FUCKING time."

Thank you Farcast, still amazes me that Jagex is the #1 developper in the UK.

Lets get this shit rolling - Can't wait for the verdict tomorrow. Hopefully they bring it back tomorrow but I highly doubt it so I'm just hoping for good news on the amount of time before it actually happens.

    Me too..

Yeah, very unlikely that it'll be introduced tomorrow. I think they'll wait at least one week before releasing it.
