I personally thing this is a great discovery because it gives scientists more proof that their are Extra Terrestrials ( Aliens ) somewhere out there in the universe (unless they already know but the government is hiding it). And possible Mars could of been a planet once inhabited eons ago.

"The identification of the shorelines and accompanying geological evidence allows us to calculate the size and volume of the lake, which appears to have formed about 3.4 billion years ago," Di Achille said in a statement.

i think this is the proof of when the lake is formed

It's probably the same way how the Earth got water.
I agree with epicfail, it's the evidence how the lake was formed.

You sound like someone who has just read a Dan Brown novel for the first time.

I don't think it's terribly important, personally. If it gets big it'll only cause a big annoying media hype at best.

Because life can all of the sudden live on dried up lake beds.

Seeing how we have yet to find a reasonable source of water, that isn't dried up or frozen, i doubt there is life.

I lol'd at the end. If this is real, wouldn't it be all over the news? I mean, this stuff would be like top-secret Pentagon information but a member posted it on Youtube? It's too good to be true!

I believe that there was some life or vegetation but now, it's just a baron waste-land.

    *facepalm*

Water, despite your observations, does not COME from rain. And I really hope you know this, but water is a compound of 2 hydrogen molecules and I oxygen molecule...This molecule can be formed under most conditions where both oxygen and hydrogen are present for bondage, and this can happen anywhere on a planet, in the atmosphere, under the ground, etc...

As far as I know, the closest evidence they can find to any liquid on mars are the fact that there are dried up water in rocks collected from mars
