What do you think 'caused' the whole universe to begin?

Since I am a christian I want to see your answers.

This is my point of view. What if I were to tell you that one of the most intelligent, respected people in modern history came to a belief in God because of the evidence? Would you believe me? Well it did happen. There was this atheist physicist who had worked out a model of how the universe functioned. His model was so correct that to this day, with all the vast knowledge we have about the universe, his model (or slight variations of it) has yet to be disproved. You’ve probably heard of this physicist. His name is Albert Einstein, and his model is the General Theory of Relativity. You see, when he began to consider the implications of his theory, he realized that the universe had to have had a beginning. And if it had a beginning, it had to have had someone or something that began it. Einstein, not wanting to accept the idea that God exists, tried to tinker with his theory, but his tinkering never quite worked out. He eventually was forced to conclude that there was, in fact, some unknown power that created the universe.

In the decades since Einstein discovered the General Theory of Relativity, science has confirmed that there was a beginning to the universe (called the Big Bang). All other models, including the steady state and oscillating universe models, do not fit scientific observation. In other words, the universe has not always existed. There was a point in time when it began, when it was created. And that means there is a Creator.

Remember it's still just a theory, and not an accepted fact. So before some of you people starting attacking other theories that retains to God, remember they're all theories.

Most people tend to believe it as true.

Just because you can't explain how something was created you don't make up a fiction character to give you a pass on your ignorance. If evidenced was found on the existence of a deity then yes i would believe he is true because evidence states so.

From my perspective, the "greater force" could be either two things. The God that created everything in his image, which everyone praises because his love for everyone. Or someone that created us and does not give a fuck about us. We could just be little experiments or things that He forgot about. Just because if there's a greater force or a creator out there, it doesn't explain if there's a heaven or hell, or if he loves us or not.

I really don't know, I was born and raised a Catholic, but I'm starting to drift away from the traditions.

People praise him because they know what will happen to them if they don't according to their religion it is simply out of fear.

This doesn't say anything about the existence of God. Simply because something begins does not mean it has to have had a creator, and even if a creator was present who's to say it would be the Christian God?

You mention the Big Bang as the start of the Universe (though this is just a theory), but the Big Bang theory has nothing to do with God.

Before you further embarrass yourself, I would like to ask you to define a scientific theory.

One would not say that they believe in a certain scientific theory, as that would imply that their belief is without evidence (faith), whereas that is completely contrary to the nature of science; scientific theories are accepted based off of the evidence, not "believed to be true."

    This.

Why would you assume that the cause of the universe was alive at all? Why couldn't it simply be a natural force?

I believe the term you were defining is ''Natural Selection''? :)

I do not know, I'm a modest man. I cannot answer the question at hand.

I am not a renowned scientist, nor am I an all-knowing man.

I can only assume, (since Science proves this much, as far as 11th grade science classes), we were formed due to some sort of combination of particles, at an intense speed.

what does being a renowned scientist or an all knowing man have to do with anything? It's either you believe in God/fairies/Santa and the flying spaghetti monster. Or you sit down read some facts learn and try to comprehend what is going on in reality.

There is really no need to be a jackass. Either way there is no accepted fact for how the Universe was created, no matter how much you try to make the Big Bang Theory seem like one.

Everyone knows you have to be an old man living in the clouds to be classified as a "creator". It's impossible for inhuman objects to create anything.

I'm simply pointing out that I cannot personally prove, or disprove anything, I can take notes, reinterpret them, and give my open opinion on them, therefore, I don't know.

threads like this prove nothing, whos to say there is or isn't a god? we have no proof of his existence. does this mean there is no god? no. you all have your own opinions and imo god isn't a person or entity but simply a way for people to feel safe. it gives people a reason to meet up together, make friends, and for a lot of older people gives them a reason to live. i'm not christian but I don't think there isnt a god, im simply waiting for proof. and an argument for Christians is how did the bible come into play? well it was written by humanity. whos to say this proves or disproves anything? creationism gives people a sense of security, in a lot of cases it makes people act better so that they get into heaven.

this was only my opinion but its not the right opinion. everyone has their own opinion ;)

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist." - Stephen Hawking

    Easiest way to put it.

While I was a bit rude, I don't think it's fair to label me as a jackass. Nowhere did I claim that the big bang theory explains "how the universe was created" (if indeed it was created). What I was getting at was that you don't understand the concept of a scientific theory.

Clearly, then, one cannot dismiss the big bang as "only a theory," any more then one can dismiss heliocentrism or the atomic model on the same grounds.

Well, by that logic who's to say there is no flying spaghetti monster, nor any fairies? The statement "God exists" is a statement regarding an objective truth, it is not subjective as the statement "meatballs taste good" is, and so there is a correct and incorrect stance on this position; god either exists, or he doesn't; somebody is correct and somebody is incorrect.
