Fish Mask Speculation

I'm curious as to how this will turn out, as with all rares; it's price will raise if it's supply is limited and there is a demand. Until they've stopped being handed out there is a very distinct possibility that the market will become flooded and the items value will fall.

Right now everyone's desperate to get on the gravy train; hoping it will skyrocket to near that of existing rares, but it took around 8 years for our existing rares to become so valuable, (I would imagine...) Largely, if not solely on botted money. Which according to Jagex will stop soon. (Reflection bots, probably- Color bots, Good luck[not actually].)
And I think therein lies the only reason it would ever become valuable... speculation.

It reminds me of when zombie gear came out as a reward from the Grave Digger random event. It was tradeable for a bit, people stocked up, then Jagex made them nontradeable...

My guess: They'll raise, as all new items do, plummet, then get bought out in bulk. To ferment in banks for years to come. Because they're ugly as sin and imo, retarded.

ehhh, the fish mask will not come close to any rares today, or at least not in the next 2 years. with the upcoming update jagex plans to totally fluctuate the whole Runescape economy and turn it into a better game. I do not see the squeal of fortune cutting off anytime soon nor do i see a reason for them to take out the fish masks anytime soon. they are 1.2m now but they wont move past 5m by the end of the year

 

With the new 200m rare prize in the sof i doubt many things will raise too much. The rares have been somewhat stable for quite a while until the fish mask was introduced. I think there is possibilty it could become quite rare, but the max price i can see it going is 50 mil and that may not be for another 5 years ATLEAST.

Nevertheless ill hold onto mine until the near future

It says on the rs site that they'll be removed

"The fish mask was originally introduced as a uncommon reward, but has since been changed to a rare reward and shall be altered to feature as a super rare reward, before being removed from the Squeal of Fortune."

Unless they introduce it as a reward from a minigame or a random drop or something unforeseeable like that, which they have completely neglected to mention as far as I can see, It will become a Discontinued item and therefore a collectible; making it valuable as fuck [once we lose a couple 1000]. as demonstrated by half wines and Disks. 100% useless, yet for no logical reason cost dozens of hours of legit grinding. I find it interesting which words they chose to put in asterisk's.

"In Summary:
- Fish mask buy/sell trades should not be posted in the Discontinued items forum *until* they become Discontinued which will not be until the end of summer/beginning of fall
- If you're using Fish Masks as a *currency* to buy another discontinued item, then you *may* post the thread here."

He appears to be implying that it could not happen... Through my paranoid eyes.

Maybe it's just me, but I think they look far better than H'weens, plus I like the bubble emote on them. Although, many others probably would agree with you.

I think the main thing that will be holding them back is how much longer they are being distributed in comparison to the other rares. The originals were pretty much only around for the holidays of their years, while the fish mask was uncommon on the squeal for some time after it's release(on top of that, crazy people who loved buying spins would take advantage of the extra chances at getting them among other stuff). Now it will still be on the wheel, although rare, for the rest of summer.

Now that people 'know' about rares, it'll be interesting to see how things go. More than likely it'll take a really long time for them to even reach what the others are right now though.

OT: It'd be interesting to know and compare/contrast on the total amount of Fish masks which will infiltrate the game after the Summer (Winter here) compared with the amount of current rares in the game.

Anyway, I don't see the Fish mask rising much between now and a couple years.

 

The game will die long before fish masks are somewhat valuable. Unlike years ago, the majority of people in runescape are collecting this new rare anticipating to get rich because of what they have seen with the original rares. There are far too many fish masks compared to the original rates.

 

I see them fluctuating between 2M and 5M for the next couple of years. In the meantime big hoarders with loads of cash might or might not buy loads and loads of them up, which will result ( or not result ) in rises above this price range.

 

I really don't understand Jagex sometimes... They say that they wished they didn't release rares because of there effect on the economy but then go and release a new rare...
