Recently I have thought of a unique idea for a website but don't have the means to develop myself.. Has anyone ever seen a developer work for the idea of profit rather tan money upfront?

Every web developer who has been in the business a while has been approached countless times by someone with the next big idea and oh it will be huge but I can't pay you now, I'll give you like 20% of the profits though, you could be a billionaire! Just pay people for the job they do for you, if you're so sure your business is going to be a success why would you give up equity anyway?

^This. Not being able to pay for a website + giving up equity for the cost of a website doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
