Looking to buy some nice floorstanding speakers. Here is the issue I'm running into:

I don't know much about this stuff, so I'm trying to find a way to get these nice floorstanding speakers to connect to my laptop. They're not super expensive, maybe 500$ total for 2 speakers; however, I'm not sure if I need both amplifiers and a receiver, or one or the other. I'm really confused about this, and how it'll all connect to my laptop just fine. If anyone can please help me, it'd be much appreciated <3

You're probably not going to find any decent information through the folks on this site.

In my opinion, you should check out AVS forum http://www.avsforum.com/ -> They will certainly have the best advice for this type of thing.

What would be taken into consideration is what you are using it for -> Music, gaming, or movies. Each one has slightly different builds to it coming from a laptop although in the long run you might need an audio converter somewhere. I do not personally have enough experience with building to give you a full expertise like they would.

As always, make sure you read and browse the forums first to get a general idea of how it's run and what you can expect from them but you will definitely get better responses there. :)

Also... a picture of the speakers would certainly help to give you a better response for how to build out. ;)
