Is Jewish A Religion or Race

Im confused on the matter, people tell me its a religon and others
say its a race. So you guys tell me. Is being jewish being a religion, race, or
perhaps both?

 

Jewdaism is not a race, its a religion. A race is an ethnic color thing. Asian, black, hispanic, and white are all races.

 

He asked if Jewish was a religion or race etc. and as what the person above me said Judaism is is a religion, Jewish ie Jews are a race, So from what you asked it's a race not a religion.

 

If you are Jewish, you are a Jew. You are a follower of the religion Judaism.

Polish is a race. There are Polish Jews. That designates their race and religion. There are American Jews, European Jews, Palestinian Jews, etc.

Because not all Jewish people have a common ancestry, Judaism is not a race.

Well I am Jewish, I don't study Judaism. To BE Jewish can be religious and racial. Hitler killed Jews because they were a "race" he killed off the race not the religion.

EDIT: I do not choose whether or not I am Jewish, I am born into it. I am Agnostic, but I am still Jewish. Thus leaving me to BE a Jew but not be a follower of the religion.

 

So if you were to convert to, say, christianity, you would be a christian jew? Wouldn't that be a problem?

 

My race is a Puertorican-Jewish-Caucasian I am Agnostic for my religion. I am born Jewish. So, I have never gone to temple in my life. Am I not Jewish then? No. I am still Jewish because my mother is. To answer this, it is both.

 

Judaism is an ethnoreligious group, meaning it's both a race and a religion. Jews whose ancestry originates from the Hebrews and Israelites belongs to the Jewish race (not necessarily to the religion). Anyone can convert to Judaism (the religion) no matter their ethnicity.

 

Jew is just a way of labeling a Jewish person (religion). Being Hebrew is a race.

 

Jew is not a way of labeling it literally saying Jewish but in correct grammar, and being Hebrew means a "member of the Semitic peoples inhabiting ancient Palestine and claiming descent from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; an Israelite" (Dictionary.com), or a language spoken of Jews being Jewish is a race, not Hebrew.

 

Wow confusing. In my opinion with no facts to back my statement i would have said its a race in which the majority of people follow the Judaism religion. But i really have no idea, never really thought about it lol. It will be interesting to see the truth.

This is wrong, you can't convert to Judaism, since you're not one of God's chosen people. You have to be born a jew.

True, there is a handful of jewish groups who take in people who wants to convert, but this is far from common.

 

You can still believe in the religion though, you don't need to convert necessarily.

 

Are you an idiot? God doesn't go "Arabs are Muslim", "Whites Catholic" and so on.. Why do you think people convert? Their belief in that religion.. Being Jewish means you're a Jew, but lately (to me) their religion is becoming more and more exclusive to others.

Yes, it is a religion, and it is a faith. But you are born a black person right? You can be born the same way, just as being a Jew. Jew's are born into a line of family ancestry which applies thus far you becoming a Jew when one of your parents are Jewish or part Jewish. Hitler was not afraid of the religion he was afraid of the race. Your a bad Nazi to not know that.
