Copyright Policy

What do you think about copyright policy, fair use, and Creative Commons?

I think copyright and patents prevent a lot of innovation and inventions, they should be abolished since no body really cares about following them anyway.

 

Completely disagree, if there were no copyright, the ideas and creations of people and companies could be stolen without any punishment to the person who stole it.

 

But why would people write, invent, or anything else if they know that somebody can steal their work and profit while the original creator gets nothing? Copyright and Patent laws are an attempt to allow people to benefit from their own works and ideas.

 

True, but recent laws have come to a point that they restrict innovation. Copyright is a good thing, but only when used in moderation. Just everything else.

Copyright is there so that when a company comes up with a certain idea/product, it cannot be freely replicated.

Here is a basic example, I used to work in a bakery, people wanted us to put disney images on their cakes but we couldn't, why? Because it was a copyrighted image from Disney and they didn't give the person nor our company permission to use said images.

Photo's are like that too, if you go to Disney world and you get a picture taken there, you can't go to another company and pay them to have it duplicated, it is copyrighted, however, if you buy the digital version of the photograph, you are waived of the copyright and can duplicate as much as you want at any company.

 

The bold part is incorrect. Even if it's digital, that doesn't necessarily mean you are waived of the copyright on said photo. You need to have the company or photographer give you a signed copyright release. Most companies don't care if you don't have one and will make copies of any photos, but technically, legally speaking they and you could get in trouble for making copies if you don't have one.

 

its just a thing for the rich guys so they can get richer..

Its a way to sue someone (ex. youtube)
