Brushes are ew you should only use like 3 at max. Anyone can click and add a brush or drag their mouse around.

Yeah if you drap and drop the c4d & change blending options it usually looks crap. You gotta erase parts, make parts a different color and all.

Lol, well im done after this post :p

You can look at it however you want, but brushes are just another way of making gfx, there are different styles and some of them include using brushes, some dont. Just because you dont like to use them does not mean they dont look good.

c4ds are complicated fractals/structures that give more random effects by far, you can practically achieve the same effect as a c4d with say a shattered glass stock etc.

Brushes are simple things that lower the standard of your work by far, if you haven't made them yourself - brushes are also 2d, can't retain a majority of the highlights/shadows/midtones at the same time, and can't be used in commercial work, so you're technically plagiarising if you're using them in signatures you're selling.

What was the reason in attacking Shane in the first place, Tr1bal? This is a thread for what you think are secrets for making your work, not for bashing the way other people make their sigs.

Guys, chill out, C4Ds and brushes don't matter, as long as you know how to put them together skillfully, I don't see what the problem is. Although yeah, it's not good to ONLY use one or the other and then call it your work.

    A few of my secrets:
    1) I've never used tutorials (besides one, and it was only to help me learn tools and how to navigate the toolbars)
    2) A lot of my tags are under 25 layers each (although I tend to merge many layers together to achieve certain effects)
    3) I never have any decent ideas for large pieces, and base them purely off the resources I collect together

    1. I hate renders.
    2. I like making signatures while listening to folk, pop, or jazz.
    3. I started learning Photoshop from text tutorials.
    4. My GFX folder is horribly disorganized but my music is perfectly organized.
    5. I like to be a minimalist when it comes to signatures.
    6. I never knew how to use the pen tool until 3 months ago.
    7. I usually only save 1 PSD per sig.
    8. I have Illustrator and C4D just haven't taken the time to learn them.

    1. I've had a progression something like this: shit pizza-topping style signatures - colour/shape based signatures - smudge signatures - blur signatures - combination signatures - my current style.
    2. I don't like colour theory, but love how subtle it is, compared to the effect it has.
    3. Fuck text.
    4. I like keeping my commercial style (web design etc) level as high as my artistic level.

    1. I never use the same stock twice, it kills me to.
    2. I have over 6 gigs of stocks on my computer and hate most of them
    3. I don't use a lot of c4ds in my sigs
    5. I love displacement maps and the blur tool
    6. I enjoy comparing my works to others to see how I stand up
    7. I don't think my skills are very good, but I keep trying.
    8. My progression was something like - Copy N' Paste renders on a canvas - Smudging the hell out of renders - quit for 6 months - relearn everything - make a decent tag - quit for a month or two - learn stock usage - Get CS5 - current style.
