I find the argument whether God exist or not is pointless. Its never goes anywhere or gains any progress. There is not proof God exist but there also is no proof God doesn't exist.

Oh, I see... non-believers are immoral criminals now?

    Paradox.

    I will no longer assume.

    1. If I knew everything about God, he wouldn't be much of a God, would He?

    2. I am against the ACT of homosexuality, as I am against all other sins. If a person has homosexual tendencies, we are taught to love the person but hate the action.

Let me remind you that God did not write the bible. Sins were made by man.

It is remarkable; the arrogance it takes to suggest any man's work is one of "God's" plan or message....

Well, I think we should at least know the basics, and have some plausible proof that he actually exists. I don't understand why a God would hide in the shadows.

Please, this is my favorite question to ask Christians - Why is faith essential to Salvation? Why is my soul in the hands of fate? Why is it that a God would leave it to chance that I'll follow the clearly mudded "proof"? There is absolutely no solid proof that a God exists, so essentially, faith determines the weak from the strong. It determines the good from the bad. It determines the stupid from the smart. How can you accept that as a belief?

Do you think that Atheists are just too stupid, or too evil to see God's existence? Why do you have a chance to achieve eternal happiness and I am doomed to burn in everlasting fire? Because you possess the ability to believe the unbelievable?

God granted him power and the knowledge to do this to the Jews. He punished the Jews and gave Hitler a very good life for a long time. He then decided that the Jews were punished enough, so he had Hitler kill himself and he went to heaven.

Its perfectly valid. If you want, leave the Hitler part out. Why did he punish the Jews then?

A Christian would argue that God gave us free-will, and as much as he was sorry about the Jews, there was nothing he could do. They might add that if the Jews lived a good life, they might be spared the fires and hell and be sent to purgatory instead. Or, if they're super awesome amazing fantastic wonderful Christians, they would say the Jews deserved it for killing Jesus.

    >_>, It seems my years of Catholic education have not gone to waste.

What are you talking about? That was not my point at all, what I am saying is why we as humans should live our lives with morals when there is no God/afterlife/etc. If there isn't a God, then shouldn't we be able to live however the hell we want? That's what I was trying to say, not that people who don't believe in God are immoral...

And listen everyone, I sincerely do not want you to think of me as some kid who doesn't know what he's talking about. I have learned about and experienced God and all I can say is that there is no possible way to give infallible evidence of God. Some things are sufficient evidence to some people, and other people believe it's not good enough. What I mean is, there are people who believe that things like color or beauty are enough to prove God. Others believe that only visible/tanglible godly actions can be considered proof.

Please don't tell me to open my eyes or stop being ignorant, I've heard that plenty, believe me. I have nothing to give you other than my experience and knowledge. If you're looking for me (or anyone else here) to give you proof of God, it's not going to happen. If the only way you will believe in God is if he personally shows himself to you, then so be it.

Also, stop giving me these bullshit stereotypes. You assume that I believe you will all burn in hell for being athesit. I never said any of that. In fact, I've been the least bit threatening... So, what's going to happen to you after you die? Who knows... maybe you will be judged on faith, or maybe you will be judged on your morals. Maybe moral atheists will go to heaven, you never know. Maybe immoral Christians will go to hell, don't ask me.

It seems like most of you believe there is no God because it's not logical. I don't blame you, believing in God can be one of the hardest things to do.

There is no absolute proof, there is however plausible proof depending on the way you look at it.

Who says faith is essential to salvation?

So belief in God is the only way to have morals? How do you work that one out? A person should base their lives off their own idea of morality, yes. They shouldn't rely on some ridiculous group to tell them what is and what isn't acceptable. Nor should they base them off of a fictional character that will punish them if they do the wrong things.

You've "experienced" God? Not to sound like the typical Atheist, but it's called wishful thinking. Beauty and Color != A omniscient being that built the Earth. Again, I ask, why would a God leave so little proof of his existence? Why would he not put tangible proof out there? The reason is simply because there is no such thing as a God, unless you actively look for a way to justify the idea in your head. The whole Russell's Teapot argument applies here.

I'm not seeing any knowledge. I'm seeing a person that is determined to believe in something, for the sake of belief.

Are you a Christian? Or do you not cling to organized religion? You obviously believe that a God is going to judge us, if not based on their faith, then based on their morals. How do you work that out? In one of those times that you "experienced" God, did you have a feeling, or did you hear a voice telling you that he was going to judge you on how you live your life? If not, you're taking that from Christianity. In Christianity, bad people and non-believers are going to a very horrible place in which they will be burn and be tortured for all eternity.

See my questions about why God would leave absolutely no plausible proof of his existence.

Actually, it's quite easy. I can convince myself that I'm hungry if I see a moist piece of chocolate cake.

The Bible and the endless list of Christian Denominations. If you do not believe that they are correct, from what are you basing your arguments? Are you just nitpicking what you like and what you don't like from Christianity?

    What are your beliefs?

Ok, I guess what I was saying was really vague. I'm saying, why don't we go around raping women and killing people? Assuming there is no God/afterlife, there is no consequence. In fact, nothing in this life actually matters because in the end we're just going to die anyway.

I didn't say I was one of those people who believes color implies God, I was just saying some people are easily convinced. And I'm sorry but I can't answer your question to why he didn't give much proof. But we need to ask the question, why should he give proof? God is the one thing that people want proof of. You see your computer, so that's obviously proof of it. You know your friend has a computer, but even though you can't see it right now, you saw it before, so that's proof enough for that. That guy that lives down the block most likely has a computer, but even though you've never seen it, you know he has one. But when someone says they believe in God, something that isn't scientifically possible, you don't believe it. I'm not saying I'm a theological scholar or anything, but maybe this is what God was shooting for... some people believe, others don't. Now there may not be a lot of physical proof (besides the Bible and numerous other old writings about Jesus/God) but there is a ton of logical proof of God. Aristotle's unmoved mover -- not proof of a personal God, but proof of some kind of force that started life. Aquinas's 5 proofs for God -- all very logical, yet can still be debated.

I am determined to believe. And it sounds like you think I've never questioned my beliefs, which cannot be further from the truth. I question my beliefs every single day. What kind of person would I be if I didn't?

Again, I was NOT saying he was going to judge us based on anything. Yes, I am a Catholic, and I believe in most Catholic beliefs, but my point was that in the end, when we're dead, something is going to happen. Whether it be nothing, or being judged on faith, NOBODY KNOWS. Yes, as Christians we believe we will be judged on faith, but do we REALLY know? Of course not, but we just think the best answer is that we will be judged on faith.

Oh, and a side note about hell, it's not an eternal flamey hellhole where we all are burned for eternity. The Inferno was written as a story, and stories have to be entertaining. Hell (as defined by the Catholic Church) is "eternal separation from God." The opposite is heaven, which is eternal... existence, with God.

No, believing in God is one of the most difficult things to do. It's easy when times are good, but when someone dies or something bad happens to you, rejecting God is the easiest thing to do.

Morals are standards that you are taught as a child through your family, friends and society. These things that you are taught go against your animal instincts. Anytime a civilization or society forms, they also form morals or they would be going around killing each other.

The Jews did not kill Jesus... Jesus was a Jew.... Plus, the Jews and Islamics would argue that we do not have free will. They all believe in the same God, the god we are talking about so this is a perfectly valid point.

Plus, you said God can not do anything. This implies that he is not all powerful. Anyone care to explain how we have free will with God being all powerful?

Like SuF said, there being a god means nothing in terms of morals, etc. We are all here, correct? We don't need someone else to be up there in order for us to act morally. God doesn't exist.

    Yup.

I just used that to combat the Christian viewpoint. If a God refuses to show proof, and imposes punishment on the unfaithful, he is either non-existent, cruel, or idiotic.

And I'm not the person to debate those 5 proofs with. I'm really don't have capability to contradict those arguments. I looked it up on WP, and I do have a basic understanding of them, and of the criticism of them, but don't have the mental capability of arguing for or against at the moment, so I forfeit :(.

That's good, the questioning part that is.

How could that be the best answer? They have no proof or plausible reason to believe that faith is something to be judged.

Eternal punishment, yeah. Sorry for the theatrics, but I'm so used to debating with people that think of a fiery pit, that I forgot the definition of Hell as defined by the Catholic Church.

So what do you believe? You have made it clear that you believe there was Intelligent Design, and you observe some of the Catholic beliefs. Why do you accept those beliefs? You can and should argue for Intelligent Design, but what possible argument is there for organized religion? There's no tangible proof at all suggesting that a God wants you to praise him each Sunday, drink the blood of his Son, and follow a certain set of rules.

Word about intelligent design. What about the human back? It is a VERY BAD design. Engineers could design a much better one. Plus, most people start getting back pain as the get older. Why? Natural selection does not care about what happens to you after you have children is the answer in support of evolution. Would anyone mind explaining a answer that supports intelligent design?

Thank you for being good about this. I'm not that smart either, I just know what I believe.

And yes, there is nothing that says we must go to Church or anything, it's just a decision made by the Catholic Church because it seemed like the best thing to do. Though I don't believe in every single part of the Church, for me, Catholic is the best choice.
