The Existence of God

Oh my gawd, this forum is still up and active xD! Hey, Shredderbeam and Personal Jesus !

I believe in a God-I'm Christian. But I'm not saying it's the truth and that everyone who doesn't follow His way will burn in hell. I'm saying us Christians probably like believing in God because it makes ushappy, it makes usfeel good. Thinking that there's possibly a God out there who's always watching over you, protecting you, guiding you assures people that they will not go wrong in life, that God has a path already set for them. That's why I believe in God. It may or may not be possible that there is in fact a God, but who knows if the Bible's true, etc etc your arguments. Whether it's just a made up story or a true religion or something, the fact that God can help me and other people go on with our lives is good enough for me
Haha, and if I'm wrong, fine, I'll go whereever everyone else is going; but if I'm right, I'm off to heaven lol..

Thats just silly. If you need a bunch of fake stories to help you go on with life I suggest you get some help. Do you really believe that something is protecting you? Please tell me that you don't honestly believe that. Do you think god is looking over starving kids in Africa? Also you say your a christian and you believe in god, but you do not believe everyone who does not follow his way will burn in hell. That makes no sense whatsoever, you do realize that that's what Christians believe in right?

 

What if some other religion is correct though? And they punish Christians if they don't believe in it? To me, the most rational thing is to say I don't know, and I think it's unlikely there is any god due to lack of evidence.

 

Oh and what do you mean as in "guiding you assures people that they will not go wrong in life." Does "wrong" mean being born homosexual, or growing up in a culture where you never have heard of a god make you wrong, where its obvious that you had no control over that.

 

God is created by men to control other men. People like to believe in him because God is just something in the human nature to believe in a simple solution when you are young. Many Christians I know have always been Christian and will never admit to a discussion whether somebody else might be right.. Same goes for allot of people with certain ideologies. Once it's in their system, it's hard to get it out of their system. Too bad.

 

I don't understand how you are content to believe in God when you freely admit that you probably believe just for the comfort.

 

Well, when I first read Pascal's Wager I was kinda shocked... I got over it but... It is a good point... Why take a risk at burning in hell forever when you could just be faithful for about 80 years. Kinda not worth it, and if you are right and god is false, then you still would never know the difference since you would be gone.

But, I do think that many people throughout history have been loyal to religion because they are afraid what will happen to them if they are not. Take the Greeks. They would treat everyone as if they were a god, since the Greek gods would go around in human bodies to test people. Fear controls us greatly as we are made to try and run from it... Running from the fear of hell is to be loyal to god... Like running from a tiger.

Whether or not this reason to believe is a good one is dependent on ones opinion like most things... I decided that its bullshit anyways for a god to exist and if there is one that is forgiving and shit then you can explain that the god did not show himself enough and it was only logical not to believe... But, people will not believe in this due to fucking fear.... :/

Pascal's Wager is a fallacy. How can you know yours is the one true God? There are many, many Religions and you'd probably burn in hell even worse for believing in another God on top of not believing in the first place.

 

What if you believe in the wrong God?

How does the Bible prove the existence of God?

Pascal's Wager can be defined as cowardice and gambling, it is fundamentally flawed. I admit that God might exist, but I won't believe that he does until solid proof is provided. You are placing a gamble: "If he exists, I get eternal life and access to heaven. If he doesn't, I lose nothing."; Relate this to one of those ridiculous quiz shows where people pay nothing and walk out with millions of dollars after gambling their winnings over and over again.

And also, gambling is a sin is it not?

 

I somewhat believe in God.

Personally, I think God is not what people believe him to be. I don't believe he really cares if we go out and cheat, steal, lie, have sex, ect. I think he is simply in existence.

I don't believe he is just a person sitting in the sky; I also do not believe in Heaven or Hell.

I think ultimately his life goal was just to create the greedy hell-hole of our human race.

I'm about to take the name "nubsInc" literally. You sir need to study the theory of evolution and understand it before you even make a comment regarding it.

Also, humans and apes do indeed share common traits. We both evolved from a common ancestor, but humans did not evolve from today's apes themselves. We took a different evolutionary curve.

 

I don't need evidence, Its simply my opinion and if you don't like it that's your problem.

I'm not here to prove a point; Just simply stating what I believe.

So lets say the 2.1 Billion Christians are wrong. If a different god is real, you think he will send them all to hell? His fault they believe the wrong thing anyways... Same shit if you an atheist and then you find out you were wrong... Still sucks to be you... D:
