    The Brain

For those whom have a brain...

Does one sit around thinking about the contents of their brain? You see, you are born as a small child, and grow up to learn many things. One continues to learn more and more, and an interesting topic has come to face:

How is it that all can continue to learn more and more, and still continue to keep the knowledge they have inside them?

As for a material object, such as a Hard Drive, it has so much information that it can contain. If it has 120GB, then it can only hold 120GB.

So, how large is the Human Brain actually, and how is it able to hold so much information? Is there a limit to how much you can learn, or will you soon forget the things that you had once known?

    Discuss.

Judging from my current life experiences so far, the brain seems to possess a limitless memory bank, albeit there exists things that I take longer to recall.

I dont know about other people but i tend to forget things i learn a year or less. I think its just a memory bank to store stuff and be able to recall it when you need. I dont study so that could be my problem.

Comparing brains to hard-drives seems like a poor idea; their similarities are limited. Hard-drives simply serve as a storage device, a finite number of one and zeros encoded onto a disk. Brains are so much more; they store information, process thought, imagine new ideas, and in the case of humans, are self-aware.

I really don't know the limit of human intelligence; nobody does. I certainly do share your awe of the human mind; to think that something so vastly powerful and creative exists within each and every one of us is mind-blowing. Even the most powerful computers dont have the potential to execute the intelligence that we see everyday; it seems so simple, yet it is infinitely complex.

The brain can store a supposedly limitless amount of information due to a ridiculously large number of brain cells. The way to compare a hard drive to the human brain would be to say that the hard drive has a ridiculous amount of storage space that no amount of movies, music, porn etc can fill.

In a way, brains are just like hard drives. You store data in them until you no longer want or need it and then you just forget it,although it is still there and you can get it back if something jogs you.You delete something from your pc via the recycling bin,its just forgotten but not gone forever, can still be recovered by forensic's people.

I can remember things I'd sooner forget.

The brain does seem limitless, but compare forgetting things to a "cleanup" method than an OS may offer. You will forget things over time, such as what happened when you were a small child, or you may forget things which are quite unimportant. This could be seen as clearing caches, to extend the analogy of a hard drive.

However, we really do not know much about the brain, because we cannot keep one alive long enough to experiment.

However I reckon you need to train your brain in order to expand its memory bank....

    u start at 54x and upgrade to 72x ^_^

    Yeah that's what I think too>_<

When you are born, you start with a smaller, slower brain.

Then as you grow, it grows with you, and starts having a bigger hard drive, processor, etc...

Thinking about this makes my brain hurt :(

very's on how much people learn, its sad to know we only use 4-6% of our brain. Um an average person should be able to learn whatever they want, and focus on. Our brain isnt like a hardrive, we have unlimited space for learning.

Some people take there brain for granted by mistreating it. Then when they die they realize its significance.

I heard that the brain remembers everything you ever did but you just forget where it is in your brain after a while. I think that the brain has a finite amount to remember but it would be impossible to fill it up in say 100 years.
