    Respect for your elders.

Hey guys i was wondering what are your thoughts on this topic? Do you guys respect your elders such as your grandparents, parents, or even older people on the streets. I LOVE my grandparents to death and even though they have A LOT of land and money and i will inherit all the millions after they die i would choose their life over the money any day of the week, i have the most utter respect for them and never speak against them because they have just showered me (not with items or wealth just love) with love since the day i was born. I have respect for my parents too because my dad left the rich life just to come to California to get me education and he used to work literally 24 hours a day and make minimum wage just for me.... My grandpa offered him help but my dad never took it because he wants to be independent and i respect him for that. I just hate people that treat their grandparents and parents like crap so much that i just wanna punch them in the face because they need to understand that these are the peoples that will always love you and will be there for you (I know some parents are horrible and i understand but you need to at least show a little love for them at least). Please leave your view on your grandparents and parents and how you feel about them.

I had great amounts of respect for my grandparents; all of whom have passed.

I'm lucky enough to have 1 mom and 1 dad, not devorced. I am an only child so i'm all they have.
my mom is like hitler and my dad is like venice beach surfer.. it's a weird match.

i may not agree with 75% of what they tell me/enforce upon me, but i can't say i don't have respect for them.

Not even parents in general - i think anyone as old or older than you should be treated with respect, i mean why not?

understandable if they did something against you or to offend you, but in general, respecting your elders (and people in general) is the right thing to do.

    Respect for your elders.

I definitely have respect for my elders, yet a lot of it did not come to me naturally and I had to learn over time.

I have always had respect for my grandparents and ALWAYS had respect for other people's parents, old folks, etc. My biggest problem in my past has been respecting my parents, as we had a very turbulent and disdainful relationship for many years during my teenage years. I think a large part of the problem was due to me being the eldest child, and their first son, so they were new to parenting and were not sure how to handle many of the situations that I put them in. In turn, I was young and immature, and fiercely opposed my parents strict rules and ruthless treatment that they subjected me too at times. Eventually, at 17 I was kicked from my house after a final violent outburst one night that put the final nail in my coffin. I cut off ties with my parents for a year or two afterwards and we both had lots of time to reflect on the past and on everything that had happened.

I am happy to say that my relationship with my parents, and my entire family, is better now than it has ever been before. I've done a ton of growing and maturing in the years since we parted ways, and my parents have been my sole support during all the deep shit I've gotten myself into over the last couple of years. I respect my parents immensely now, and I also forgive them for the past and understand that they were really trying their best, and all they wanted was the best for me. I also acknowledge that I created the majority of the problems and definitely made things much worse than they ever had to be.

Respect for elders is something that I think at times, our generation lacks. I try my best to respect my elders, especially those that I don't know, as I think it is very important.

I feel that respecting your elders is almost mandatory. I respect my parents, my grandparents, I even respect my older brothers. It helps to have a good amount of respect for people, and know how to treat them. I'm pursuing a business degree within 3 years, and all of the etiquette and respect matters. You learn as you age, and as they've aged before you, they deserve a bit of respect unless they're completely ignorant. Some people's bodies age but their mind doesn't, leaving them in the mentality of an 18 year old and the body of a 40 year old unfortunately.

Not necessarily, I pay for my grandparents condo in Florida so they can spend their retirement on other things, however I don't go to visit them.

My parents live in New York, but they're more then financially stable so i don't do the most for them, I talk to them occasionally.

To be quite honest, I do more for my siblings and their children then I do my "elders". Any financial issues any of my siblings have I will more then gladly pay or loan them anything they need, all my of nephew and nieces have trust funds set up for them, brother/sister in-laws as well.

I'm more closer to my siblings, nieces and nephews then I am to my parents, grandparents and that's fine with me.

As for "I would rather them live than inherit their estate"... No.

Yeah I know what your talking about how you care more about your siblings, I love my little bro to death and I would do anything for him but on the other hand my sister is useless and doesn't do anything and I rarely talk to her and we live in the same house. I am the oldest and that's why I inherit all my grandparents money and also because I'm a male (religious stuff) and my little bro is 2nd in line for the fortune which has already set his life up. I would choose my brother over anything in the world. Brother>family (maybe)>anything else in the world.

    Respect for your elders.

Growing up I was more around adults than my peers so I got to see what they go through from an earlier age than most children. I have an immense respect for my elders, as long as they have made something of their life. I couldn't care less about some leech on society living off transfer payments because he is too drunk to work.

I my opinion, mostly all of you people are lives in USA and Eastern Europe and not exactly undersand that the people from other side of Earth just need to survive and almost working for food. And in these conditions you also need to be a human, raise your children and always take care of your elders.
I am saying, that in US and Eastern Europe you can be a janitor and have no financial issues, take care of your elders and children.
Also its a little bit harder than at your wealthy side of Earh and depends on willpower of each human.
An what we've see at the end? If a lot of people in US, likely a whole town will not have money at all, they are starting with drugs, pils and drinks. But imagine, that in that way many years lives whole countries and not give up.
Ask yourself, would you help your elders if you've not have the money at all and need to survive each day?

I respect everyone in my family, especially my elders. My grandparents do so much for me and I owe it to them. On the other hand, my parents are also big supporters of me and I thank them for that.

I have a basic respect for everyone, but at this point I am old enough that I don't blindly accept what older people tell me based on a tradition that was useful in ancient times.

I feel everyone older than me deserves a certain respect. That does not mean that I will treat them like a god just a simple consideration that they probably are wiser than me.

    Respect for your elders.

In my opinion you have to earn respect. Why should I treat someone like a God and let them treat me like shit just because they're 60 and I'm 16? I've got no problem with being respectful provided it's deserved. You're age is irrelevant, if someone behaves in a certain way I'll feel the same way about them if they're 10 or 100.It really winds me up when an older person acts like a dick towards younger people and regardless of whether they are right or wrong or being fair expect them to lick their ass the whole way through simply because they're older. Makes me angry. >_<

I think respect to elders is a must. Everytime i see little kids at the mall, back-talking their parents or something like that, i get sick to my stomach.

I definitely do have respect for the elderly; even if someone older than me treats me with disrespect, I'll just ignore them and move on.

    Respect for your elders.

I respect people, especially my parents, for what they've done for me rather than how old they are. My mum went through four years of college while living with me (as a young child) in poverty; dealing with an abusive drug addict boyfriends (my father.) And helped pull me into something much better. That's what respect is.

I respect my family. I also respect people as long as they respect me. If they are rude to me, than I am rude to them, no matter what the age.

    Respect for your elders.

Respect is given to a single person, not a group of people or a certain generation.

There are some really sophisticated and very nice kids/teenagers, and there are some old, bitter, and greedy elders - And vice versa.

Think about some of those people that have wasted their lives abusing drugs and alcohol and just peddle out by the highway for money. They've done there time and you feel sorry for them, but you can't really respect them for how they chose to live...

Inb4 some are vets, people who actually struggle, etc. - I know, it was an example because there are people like that.

    I guess you're right, but...

If I were an old man, and there were snobby kids running around, getting in my way and stuff, not giving a fuck (not all kids, but alot are) I would be a grumpy-ass motherfucking grandaddy.
