Can Diablo 3 pvp become an e-sport?

A lot of people are under the assumption that the new arena system in Diablo 3 is a cue for an upcoming E-Sport (highly competitive scene). I would like to bring such rumors to an end, with an example. Look at what happened with the class balance after the induction of arenas in WoW. Even after 4 or so years since the induction of arenas, classes are still unbalanced for both the PvE and PvP scene. It will be nigh-high impossible to keep class balance maintained for both the normal and the PvP scene, especially with the new rune system, which allows for so much customization of talent builds.

Opinions? Can an E-Sport be made out of D3 PvP?

 

While it could be possible I don't think it will happen for awhile. It may a few years down the road... you never know. But they have explicitly stated they don't want it to become an e-sport and will not be supporting the pvp end, they want the game to remain pure to PVE as the priority.

If you look at WoW as an e-sport personally I think it was a fail and ruined the game. While PvP is fun it wasnt meant to be a PvP based game, and its impossible to balance correctly with all the variables.

So I kind of hope it doesn't, it would take away from the pve experience with the constant attempts to balance the pvp. But I will play the pvp for fun most definitely
