Service Advertisement/Ranking Sticky

What if Sythe had a sticky in sales sections that highlighted members who are trusted in providing a focused service? Let me use Pin sales as an example. A person in search of a Pin must weed through the section for Pins in order to find someone they feel is legit and pricing. This sometimes can be a challenge in itself not to mention busy on the server. This also could greatly reduce the number of posts/bumps a member offering the service would need to make as he would no longer need to fight to keep his thread in the top threads of the section. How do we determine who is qualified/trusted to have a listing? This could be something that requires a certain number of postings, time with Sythe, donations to maintain and/or much like an OMM, you must meet established certain criteria for the service to be recognized. If selected as a sticky, then Mods responsible for the section could be responsible for approving a member service to be added and also how he is ranked? Lastly this could assist Sythe in selecting qualified section Mods.. Seeing how these service focused members become recognized as trusted and also experts in their service, perhaps in time they're considered to section moderators of the section? Any input and/or thoughts?

Yep see your point as for liability.. however isn't it much like OMMs? Perhaps a sticky designed to offer low budget advertising for members offering a service, however they would have to meet a Mods approval..

 

Not exactly the same thing because many member MMs are free and OMM charge, but with sellers, they all charge and officially supporting some of them will make them sell more.

 

I would have to both agree and disagree. It would stop people from using others services, but it would be a lot safer. It'd be like the XBL lobby verification system then, no? Example here. Notice that both DJ and Feren are not mods yet they're able to verify. How come we can't have specific salesmen yet we have specific people (non mods) for verification?

 

OMM's go through a vigorous process - one that requires a significant investment of time by both the applicant and staff. How long does it take to become a "trusted" pin seller? A month? Two? Either way, it's not long enough to get a 'true' feel for the user and to decide their integrity. Moreover, every pin sold benefits the seller, making each successful trade relatively unimpressive. By contrast, MM's typically offer their services for free during the application period: there is no direct or guaranteed gain other than reputation.

...only for the 'approved' sellers. Meanwhile, everyone else would have to bump more to get their threads recognized, since the majority of buyers would presumably flock to veteran sellers.

 

It still wouldn't be fair to the upcomers who would barely get service.

 

But I think it would be a great step to protect the new/existing members who come to Sythe in search of legit service. Who gets scammed more when it comes to services, the buyers or the sellers?

 

It still doesn't mean the "trusted" members wouldn't scam. Anyone can scam you. Trust no one

 

I think it is a decent idea, and Sin, perhaps you could make a simliarly rigorous process for a person attempting to become of one these trusted sellers?

 

There are too many different services to try and maintain a similarly rigorous process for all of them - pin sellers, skill trainers, gold sellers, item traders, questers, gold transfer'ers, Zeal collectors/torso-ers/firecapers/etc, account merchants, and whatever else people offer.

As I said, the OMM process requires a fair investment of time by staff; so would each of the above, and they would undoubtedly attract far more applicants each.

 

So are you saying OMM's wont scam?

Sin, I guess that makes enough sense, too many variables to condense it into one generic form. And I agree with Haha on the last point, OMM is alot less likely to scam, since they have vested so much time into gaining that title.

 

There is still alot of people who invested time into this site who ended up scamming or getting banned.
