Hey, Back in 2008 I played WOW for the first time
for a total of 3-4 hours and got bored quiet quickly,
mainly because I had no idea what I was doing and
the fact that I was dying alot.

What are some of the more addictive features in the
Game that keep you guys coming back for more?

I may pull WOW back out of the cupboard and give it
a try but i'd rather know what I should be experiencing
    to enjoy it.

    :D Thanks:D

The game has changed TONS since then. The new starting quests are much more interesting than they used to be, and the levelling experience is overall way more entertaining. I used to find levelling unbearable, but now I actually look forward to it.

End-game content is always what pulls me back though. Raids are just... fantastic fun. My only advice is not to take the game too seriously. Just allow yourself to have fun, level with a friend, raid with friends etc. and it works out great.

1-60 was completely changed and is now both compelling and less tedious. Make a new toon. Then, at 60, head to Outlands. I'm warning you, Outlands and Northrend are very dry when it comes to questing, but once you get to level 80 head to Vash'jir and questing to 85 becomes fun again.

Once you're 85 (max level) run tons of heroic dungeons to get some decent gear. Once you hit average ilvl 349 I'd say is when you can start pugging raids.

And that's how you get started. Or at least how I did, and I'm a world ranked mage :3

Ya like all the above posters said, the leveling mechanics are completely different now, and there is a built in Quest Aiding system which basically tells you where to go and what to do. Also PvP and PvE is really why you play the game sure the leveling is ok, but your main goal is to hit 85 for end game content. And since Cataclysm just came out, there is loads to do.

To be honest, when I fist started playing I almost quit also. Blizzard has done A LOT to make lower levels a lot more entertaining. The talent system is totally revamped, you receive a key spell at level 10, and generally more skills early on in the game.

If you have any specific questions about anything jut let me know and I can help you out, I was just trying to give you a vague idea of what has changed since you last played.

Well, all the questing from 1-60 has become more interesting and you understand more. Also, PVP is really fun, instances also bring me back. Once you reach the maximum level, theres a lot of stuff to do. Such as get epic gear and pets and PvP and stuff.

Imo you don't start having fun until around level 60.

What keeps you interested is end-game content, progression, gearing, pvp.

Be warned though, once you reach 85 and start raiding, there is INTENSE competition. Your best bet is to join a raiding guild. Once you've done that, in order to raid competitively and for rankings you must learn your class. Know your rotation, coordinate stuns, don't stand in fire.

WoW becomes a second job at that point- primarily why I quit shortly after killing HLK25, and I only returned a few weeks ago.

    Moderation is key.

If your question is 'What is end game content?'

Then the answer is simple, by the time you reach the end there is a bunch of content that is only accessible by being the highest level possible, this is things like 25man raids. These require lots of co-ordination and planning and take up a considerable amount of time, although this is where you can get some of the best gear in the game.

To the people who are talking about WoW becoming a part time job - it only is if you make it like that. I was the Ret. Paladin for the top raiding guild on the server, and top 200 during WoTLK. I would only get on for 3 hours twice a week.

It's obviously more during progression, but for the most part I'm "required" to be online 6 hours a week.

There are 2 main things that keep you interested in the game (once you hit 80.)

Raiding - Raiding is really fun (unless you're a healer).. New raiding content is always exiting. However raiding does get boring after awhile if you keep doing the same raids over and over with no challenge whatsoever.

PvP - Player vs player.. if you like pking in runescape this is probably what you'd be spending your time doing. You kill others without the risk of losing your items. There's also arena where you can do either 2v2, 3v3 or 5v5 matches against other teams.

If your one of the odd ones who enjoy doing quests you'll enjoy leveling multiple toons to 80.
