Ive restarted probably 30 times and been raided so many times now, Im ready to neck myself. Anyone want to team up?

 

@Killswitch & @Sy1v3rus have won part one of the competition (5k HQ metal, 10k wood, 10k stone, & 10 guns).

After so much grinding... We did it!

 

Here is the issues I have with this event:

-Why reset the server halfway though the event on the weekend where people who WANT to play CAN play?
-Why are users who are not active on sythe at all allowed to participate?
-event was poorly managed, there were many 'teams' that took advantage of no server admin and zerged. (there were many teams of 3+)
-Event not only was taken down after being official, but poorly optimized and catered to those who have no life. Holidays, finals, heavy time of year. Then released again when nobody can play, deeming unfair advantage.
-Server had no decay set. If the server is supposed to be played as an event, why weren't vanilla rules followed? It would give an equal playing field for everyone involved.

-If non sythe users are allowed to play, then why wasn't the server public? meaning that these people were invited.
-why are the reqs for winning simply a grind fest? server had people running around raiding and having fun while people literally sat there and farmed for less than 2 days to win. The objective of the game is to wipe out the other tribes, so sitting and chopping a tree for an hour to 10k wood, etc is a sufficient way to determine who is better?

tdlr; if youre going to make an event, at least make it as fair as possible for everyone involved. the price pool is insanely hefty for a 2 day event. This is an example on why people don't participate in events.

Why was no one who had played rust for more than 15 minutes consulted before making this event?

Rust is a game about survival of the fittest, not grinding. Me @Island and @Fear were playing this event to have fun, not to just grind.

I have no problem with @Killswitch he played to win according to the rules which were the root of the problem.

Rust has been designed in such a way to cater to survival of the fittest and yes grinding is a part of it, but base decay is as well. If you have no decay for bases, you can make an enormous monster with no upkeep. The largest issue with this event is that there was no consultation with knowledgeable rust players. I know richard mentioned that he played, but not since the last time blueprints were in the game. If you're aware of rust's history that's been a while.

At the core of this I realize you had good intentions but they were lazily applied, whenever CDT runs an event we always ask someone who has in depth knowledge of the game what the best way to do it is. You can ask @Gen how much I asked him about League of Legends before that tournament.

There's a reason Technical Core doesn't run events; because they go like this.

Leave the events to CDT or at least ask for guidance.

 

At least I met new people to team with, literally the one good thing about this event.

You don't seem to get that Rust is survival of the fittest, it's not Sythe, Insiding, changing codes, bsing and all of these other things that are frowned upon are a vibrant part of the rust game/community. It's about trust, that's all you have on Rust. THAT'S THE POINT. If you're going to make game changing rules you should've listed them at the start.

Really enjoyed playing rust after a few months, was nice to play with the sythe community. I was a bit late to the party, @Island and @mumble already made a decent progress before the server restarted. This is extremely unfair and unacceptable, @Grave you can't reset a progress during a competition and if it was necessary then you should have returend the items lost. As i understand the server restarted during the weekend, and that's when most folks have time to play mindlessly because the weekday is full of IRL commitments.

Among other issues one that Island pointed was base decay being disabled. This makes the whole thing extremely unbalanced, you're discouraging players to raid or PvP due to the immense size of the base a person can make without any penalties to their resources.

Lastly, the mini rank and SG feels undeserved and almost free to obtain. It hardly takes 3 hours of work to get all the required stuff, and with the environment rules that you provided it was basically uncontested.
during the 3 days the competition lasted i devoted 30 hours of playtime, and 24 of those hours were spent gathering, storing and building. We tried to have fun, but that was short and only when I was tired of looting monuments in repitition.

You must work out to compensate Island and mumble for their loss, if you can honor your word for an unofficial event, then you can also do this.

Would be nicer to have an official Sythe Rust Server, then regulars can be rewarded with the mini rank that way. In addition to a requirement to stay active to an acceptable level to retain that mini-rank. Wipe it every two weeks or one week dependant on activity and that way we the community can grow a Rust Server. Also new people to the community as an added side bonus.

The problem with Rust Servers is people leave quickly, if they recognise it as a community server then people will likely stay there for longer and enjoy it more.

(edit) This doesn't mean it's an "official" Sythe server. The event is over, it's going to be different. I'll have no bitching on this thread about it. Also, I'll update the thread today with prizes.

You don't seem to get it. Rust is survival of the fittest. If there's a reset, you had just as much chance as anyone else to complete the tasks required. I could have reset the server daily and someone could have still got the achievements. There was no rules on how resets would work at the time.

I don't care that you had finals.

The requirements are not just a grind-fest. The event, after the reset you hated so much, was updated to cater to (A) anyone who plays for a couple hours, (B) anyone who wants to grind, (C) anyone who wants to do the best base. How else would we measure it? Obviously if we could figure out who did the most raids, who wiped out who, etc.

What exactly are we compensating them for? They're already getting the minirank. They're already getting around the same SG per person for much less work than originally required. We did a vote on the reset, most active players wanted it done. Maybe if you were actually active you'd be there for when everyone talked it out. No one was online for a long time before the reset.

Resetting is was a good decision. No decay was a good decision, changing competition requirements was a good decision, more players were on after the reset. Much more.

 

We could probably do this but thanks to @Island @mumble @Fear it won't happen.

If they apologize for acting like complete childs over a game because of every specific detail then I can speak to Sythe and see if he'll consider having it reset bi-weekly or weekly and give everyone who plays the minirank. We can't cater to everyone's specific requirements though.

 

Will we still be able to post pics/vids of our base for that part of the competition? My team didn't get to record a video yet

Probably not if it reset. It looks like a reset but maybe not, I'm verifying. If I remember correctly Rust sometimes does updates that requires a reset, this may be that.
