    Taking the ACT soon

Hey guys, I'm a Junior in high school and I'm going to be taking the ACT in roughly 2 weeks for my 2nd time.

Just wondering if you guys have any sort of suggestions/tips. I have an ACT prep workbook I'm studying with for roughly 1-2.5 hours a day. As I get closer I'll take short practice tests to just get warmed up.

It's on a Saturday so currently my game plan is to make sure I get to bed pretty early and am able to get a good breakfast and be 100% awake.

Hoping to snag myself in the 33-34 range, though maybe low 30s would be more likely.

If you guys have any tips or suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

    Taking the ACT soon

Honestly as a veteran i have taken the ACT or was made by my parents (thank you Dad & Mom) least 3 times. No this is not the one that you take in your high school. I took the practice act's and i have gone to many act preps. To get 33-34 range all you need know is that you have to stay calm fill in the questions that you are sure you can finish quickly and move on to the next one. If you don't know the answer skip it come back to it at a later time. Skipped ones just guess if you don't know them. Psychologists say that your first choice is the correct one most of the time. Don't rely on that though ... Try to improve your study hours because 2hrs max won't help. Try doing least 4hrs a day combine it with some practice tests don't take them like if your ACT exam is like a week away. Not sure how you study or how your schedule is but maybe try that you might see a change in your learning style witting a week or so. Thats how i managed to get my stuff done and was able to succeed thanks to my mentors.

I have gotten close to 34. I will need to find my act score i will edit my post to show just incase if you want to see as proof.

I was told to just to that in every act prep class i went to. Thanks to that i was able to manage my time and study hard from act prep books and go to the classes after school and on weekends. I was able to get to 33 and graduate HS and go to the university my family and i wanted .

Im actually doing the same for the MCAT preps. I hope i can score good on it too! I wish you good luck and i pray that you get 33 or 34 =)

Some pretty solid advice. I personally found studying to be a nuisance, as it never helped me get a good score, but it differs from person to person. One big thing:

Be sure you get some good sleep the week leading up to it. Staying up early in the morning studying will not help you. Studies show you'll do better with less studying and more sleep. So be sure you get a solid 8 to 9 hours the week leading up.

I have some bad news for you...

Unless you do SIGNIFICANTLY better this time around, your score probably wont go up, and may even go down.

The ACT is graded based on how many people are taking it that day/week, and how well everyone does. If 100 people take it that day, and they all do better than you, you are going to get a very low score on the ACT. Even if you only missed say 10 questions. This is because it is graded on a bell curve.

Your best chance of getting a high score was when everyone else took it with you when you took it your first time. IE when the kids who didn't give a fuck were taking it. I took it in 8th grade, when only other 8th graders were taking it and got an official score of a 32. Just because I did so much better than other 8th graders taking it. Had I been up against highschoolers I probably woulda only got in the 25s?

Is that fair? Yes and No.

Can you still get a 33-36? Yes ofc. Just have to do a lot better than you would of had to do the last time you took it.

Do you have a source for this? The way I understand it, is that the test is slightly curved only based on the difficulty of it.
