    Bumping Locked Threads

Is there anyway a locked thread can be disabled from being topped? Like when a moderator locks a thread, they usually post a brief reason why the thread was locked, and it moves to the top of the 1st page. Is there anyway a locked thread could remain in it's given position, and not be able to move upwards until it's archived? I don't think buyers/sellers really appreciate the fact that they are moved to the top either, because it does is move a serious buyer/seller's thread down and cause more bumping/less business for there thread. If anything, it would be nice for locked threads just to be automatically archived, instead of having to go through the process manually, or whatever you guys do to archive threads.

It auto bumps when posted on. So unless you don't want your threads bumped when you or someone else writes on it there's nothing that can be done.

If your requesting your own thread to post there isn't much of a reason for them to post the reason for them closing the thread? Maybe you could ask them to not bump it when you report your thread to be locked, if it's really bothering you.

They are required to give reason on why thread is being closed, therefor bumping the thread.

Even if you request your OWN thread to be closed?

Yep... Because when someone asks about it in the future that's their reference to why it was closed

I don't think you're getting what I'm trying to say. I'm not saying a moderator shouldn't post a reason as to why the thread was locked. I'm saying that instead of the thread being bumped to the top after being locked, there should be an option when locking the thread, that makes it possible for thread to either A) be automatically archived or B) be prevented from being moved to the top. If somebody wanted there thread to be locked, they obviously don't want it to be bumped again, and for rule breakers/scammers, there shouldn't be a reason why they should be advertised at the top, that's what the stickies are for.

I don't think it's that much of a problem that they are going to go through the trouble of coding some kind of plugin or what ever has to be done to make what your describing possible. I suppose they could edit the op and ad a note? Even still I don't think it's really a problem if they post when closing a thread.

When a thread is locked it goes down the list quite quickly. If a locked thread is sitting at the top of a section for a while, there's no activity in that section (which isn't many.)

I would say the runescape item section is a relatively popular part of sythe, yet there are 5 locked threads in the first page dating back to the 16th.

It's a reasonable suggestion but unnecessary. If a thread is malicious it will be deleted from sight, but regular old threads will drop soon enough.

This could easily be implemented in say 3 lines.

IMO there would be more harm than good in auto-archiving all locked threads. Just because it's locked doesn't mean it should never be found using searches to answer queries, nor should it just disappear from sight. I can level with the OP that locked threads can be an eyesore, but it's generally an occupational hazard of all forum goers, and we should just get used to it.

However, on one account I agree wholeheartedly. I think it's dumb to see a "Closed your thread for you" for no reason. It's harmless, but I found myself preferring to silently lock any request because, as GW said, there's no reason to bump a thread that clearly has died at the OP's request. Ultimately though it's the mod's prerogative to type something or not, and I'll respect whatever the mod wants to say.

Btw iJava, it's significantly harder than just changing a few lines of code. We're using (as you undoubtedly know) a very old VB system. As it stands, there is some demand for something similar to Got Weed's suggestion--namely, being able to auto-archive spam reports immediately after doing them. The reason this hasnt been changed isn't because Matthew is too lazy to change "3" lines of code, when such a change would save lots of time for spam reports and disputes.

Unnecessary and threads go down quickly anyways.
