Edward Snowden: Whistleblower or Leaker?

Thoughts on this guy? Do you think he's a whistleblower or a leaker?

 

i think what he done was just, the us will make it seem like hes a terriost, but truth is the government is infringing on our rights.


of course they'll say its to stop terroist attacks, but it wouldn't suprise me if this was going on before 9/11.

 

he is a genius but i'm not surprised that everyone can see what i do on the internet, i bought a machine from a store and my internet is being paid for by my end, i didn't create what i use therefore i don't think i should assume what i do isn't being watched. Not that i'm saying its acceptable to do so

 

I also agree with what this guy did, I'm not from the US, but it still seems like they were taking advantage of their power. However I can see both sides, He did sign up for that job, and he accepted the contract which specifically said That he could't share that information.

Either way, he's fighting against the system, which never works out well!

 

Whistleblower. He did what he did knowing he would enter a world of shit by doing so, to make us aware of what the government are doing. A very brave individual, with alot of balls.

 

Props to the guy for doing what he did. He basically gave up life as he knew it to point out the wrong doings of the government.

 

Meh, and I was hoping to hear responses saying he's a leaker >_>

I dont get how people like this are called "heroes". There are ways for a supposed whistleblower to do things, and what/how he did it was definitely NOT the way to do it. He was entrusted with information and access, and he clearly violated that trust. I still don't view him as a whistleblower, but instead as a leaker who simply betrayed the trust that was placed upon him. Also, I think he is a coward for running to Hong Kong, Russia, and South America to seek asylum.

 

I'm not surprised by the information he uncovered but it still is an invasion of privacy and has caused quite an uproar. I personally think he's more of a whistleblower. When I heard of him I immediately thought of Julian Assange and I see that WikiLeaks is helping him flee. Exposing dirty things like this can now be seen as being a "hero" since the shift to the digital age. Cyber warfare is a real thing.

 

i wouldn't call him a heroe, cus nothing he did was heroic, all he dead was bring light on stuff alot of people already thought was going on, and confirmed it.


i mean its already known that the GOV monitors landlines, so why wouldn't they do it on the internet aswell?

 

There are instances of previous "whistleblowers" who followed due process when exposing government violations in the US, and the have not ended well. I think he went with the only feasible option he had.

And not sure how he is considered a coward, he's not a hero or anything but making the choice of giving up your whole life in order to expose something like that can't be an easy choice. If he had tried to follow due process, I'm sure some govt loophole or patriot act clause would have allowed them to fuck with him easily. He made the right call.
