Sythe wants us to settle the miniranks issue

It was always intended to be to aid the community.
I just think the shit decisions being made here, yea so a majority voted in the hundred-option poll, but do the majority give a damn about new members and community participation?

 

No don't remove them at all. Option 1 wins by a large margin. Case closed.

 

You're right with the statistical addition bit, yes, but I'd personally run another poll for option 1 and a purged option, and then a neutral option. But that's just me.

New users don't have it automatically adblocked, seeing 'gohan has aids' etc forumwide is a pisstake tbh.

People won't give the MOTM and Community Participant miniranks a second look as they've seen some of the others and probably thought they're all immature, expecting the MOTM minirank to be something like 'gratz, do u want a medal m8'

The community wanted them before they realised what a mess they'd make, as originally they weren't going to be handed out as often as people signing up to the gym the week after new year. I think the best method that we're all gonna come up with here is that Spam Forum ones/troll ones/ones rewarded by admins to people in SF etc should stay in SF, as then the other ones get the recognition they deserve in the other sections.

While these suggestions inspired the system, it was not exclusive for these suggestions. I assume a lot of people also bitched about fun ranks, so it was meant to be a less fun rank admins could give out more freely.

Miniranks in no way inspire new fucking members. I'm kind of sad you're a global moderator and deeply in the CDT when you can't even understand this simple concept. Same goes for a lot of shit in the CDT that's supposed to help the community grow, but instead, they're just something that something like 20-30 already active members partake in.

Everyone who wants the system "purged" doesn't even have a concise reasoning for it. You just jump from one reason to another, and as each reason fails, you create a new reason. The latest reason is that having too many miniranks devalues the system. Please tell me how a rank, even more rare than an automated rank, given out only by administrators, devalues the system. I guarantee you there are less of these than the automated ones. If anything, the automated ranks devalue the system.

Don't speak on behalf of the community when they've already spoken through this poll. We already tried keeping the SF ones in SF and people, including myself were upset, so we did a poll to see what everyone really though and we came to a conclusion. It's a closed matter. By the way, how would you like it if each minirank only displayed in the appropriate section? It's unfair to bar the spam forum ranks to the spam forum, yet show, for example, community participant, outside the community forum, or the league of legends, outside that appropriate section.


Roary, just close this thread and create your own to argue otherwise. Bumping this up will just confuse people because the poll is already over.

 

If they were purged, they would increase community participation as they did when miniranks were first introduced. Slowly as more were made easily available, participation in events declined.

I'm not "unable to understand", I can see your argument loud and clear and I'm in agreement with you that it's not a big deal to the majority. All I'm asking is that you consider the fact that they used to be useful and helpful and now they're not. My arguments are based on what I've seen through organising events, they're not just plucked out of thin air.
Just because the poll is "over" doesn't mean I can't give my opinion, it is the Community Input forum.

 

The ones that are actually rewarded for doing things on the site should be forumwide, as anyone can earn them by doing things. However we all know the SF ones are mainly given out to n4n0's friends etc, I don't mean that in a way to describe n4n0 as a power abuser or anything, as he's not, but they tend to go to people who are "the sf trolls" or "staff friends"

 

That's speculation. At least show me proof they increased community participation when the miniranks were first introduced. Do you mean spamming a section with like 10 posts to get the minirank because someone was curious?

This is a thread exclusively meant for the poll. It would be better for everyone if a separate thread was made, to reduce confusion. And by the way, they're as effective as they were before. It's not like all the community miniranks were removed. They're still there. No one is going to be like "Well fuck, there's other ranks than the community ones. I'm going to quit Sythe."

They actually tend to go to Sythe's friends and anyone who is active in the spam forum, even those that Sythe and other admins hate. It's a very fair system. You can even trade for them. I think everyone is just upset that there are more spam forum ones than other sections, so a solution would be adding more community-based miniranks to balance it out, rather than purging them. All purging would do is: 1) decrease the trading, 2) reduce trust in the system since people who already traded them would lose them, 3) reduce the amount of miniranks altogether, making it an even more pointless system. Think of them as achievements. Eventually, there will be so many fucking achievements that it may seem useless, but the people who actually still work for the achievements feel a sense of happiness when they get it, and you want to take that away.

 

Another thread would mean 3 threads which I felt was OTT.
I wanted to voice my opinion on the outcome, as it's something that has a big impact on what I do in CDT, whether you think I do much or not. When someone responds to my opinion I like to reply to that and try to justify myself, I'm not trying to cause conflict.

There's no right or wrong in this instance, only opinion unfortunately. We'll see what comes of this outcome in the future.
