Receiving a PM when we are infracted

I think this is simple enough. Whenever a user receives an infraction I'm pretty sure it is not the first thing we notice when we look at our profiles. If we could get some sort of PM, informing us of the infraction that would be of much use. This could also help lower the amount of people who are temp banned for excessive infractions.

Is it that hard to just click your profile, also just adds more to the work load of the already stretched staff.

 

This would be harder work for the staff and wasting their time, just go to 'User CP' and all your infractions are there with reasons. I did however when I received my first infraction receive a pm about it stating why but that was when Spyike was around.

 

I mean wouldn't harder work for the staff to benefit the site be worth it? I am not going to argue about the workload that would be introduced to the staff if they were to implement this. This is really just a suggestion to see whether or not this would actually be helpful for the majority of the users. Possibly, an alteration to my suggestion could be just informing users when they are 1 infraction away from a ban?

 

You have 25 posts if your already thinking about getting temp banned just be sure to read the stickeys and post helpful stuff, try avoid spamming for post count an all should be good.

Pretty much if you dont fuck up, you shouldn't be worried about infractions.

 

I vaguely remember this being suggested and denied before.

 

We do have the option to send PM's with it, but we normally infract from spam reports and its much more efficient if we just infract and move on.

 

Aus aaz, you are completely misunderstanding this suggestion. I am not worried at all about being infracted as I seldom post. It's just this could be very useful for other users who may be new and not necessarily know how much the mods enforce the rules. They could post in 4 topics before they even receive one infraction, next thing you know they are banned because before they were informed they were breaking the rules (which they may not have known) they had already accumulated too many.

 

If they read the stickeys they would know the rules.

 

let's be realistic, the majority of people do not read all the rules on a site as soon as they sign up. they should, but they don't. yes i agree with you because they get what they asked for by not reading the rules, but a lot of the time, innocent members who could possibly contribute to the community in some way are banned. i suppose this is where disputes come into place but still, i feel if there was a warning or even a disclaimer as soon as they receive their first infraction, then this would just be helpful.

Its really the moderators discretion if they want to PM them or not, most will, some wont, it really depends if they're busy, at the end of the day if they dont know the rules then they shouldnt post, its not stupid to realise that spamming should not be done outside of the spam forum.

 

well this can be closed i suppose. must have misread your earlier comment that karl. if mods have the option of alerting a member via pm then I am sure they possess the ability on to decide if it is fit to do so. i hope this is not viewed as any sort of troll because this was a sincere suggestion. thanks

 

All a Mod needs to do is check a box if they want a PM sent. Not really much, but I don't think a PM is necessary.

 

Here is how to do that check yourself.

Go to profile. Look at infractions. 5 = temp ban. Compute basic math.

User error; if they get infracted 5 times and temp banned, then I can assure you that they will be sure to check up on the rules when they get unbanned.
