    Partial protest success?

13 Senators have now come out against SOPA and PIPA, Also google has reported that 4.5 million people have signed the petition. This is just a small win in what I am sure will continue to be a battle. Let's keep this massive support going. I do not think Washington knew what to do with the floods of questions, emails and phone calls forcing them to make an immediate decision. This is the biggest impact and most immediate impact a protest has had in my lifetime.

Good, it was just ridiculous that these laws were even proposed in the first place. Don't get 60+ year old governors who don't have a clue about modern technology to make decisions that would screw over the rest of the world.

I love the power that Google has to bring together massive amounts of people. Demand Progress struggles to bring together 100,000 and Google does millions in a day.

I was shocked watching Rachel Maddow. She was saying the exact same thing that we are, that the majority of the senators do not know truly what the internet is and thinking that they can just "lasso it up like a calf". She also took blame for the under coverage of such a large event. I was happy to finally see somewhat of a truth in reporting. Quoting a Senator from Alaska "The internet is just a bunch of tubes"..

Amazing. I love it too, the fact that big corporations can not always get what they want. We all know piracy is a problem, hell, I know the majority of sthe users own pirated material, but we at least acknowledge that it is not a good thing. SOPA and PIPA are just not the way to tackle the problem. As you guys can tell with all of my posts on this topic I am very emotional about this topic. I am glad to see the people win once.

Just to clear our good name: The senator in question said that six years ago. He is also now dead, and he had left office before he died. He was also born in 1923, meaning he was already in his 70s when the Internet came to most Americans' homes. ;)

I really hope, SOPA doesn't get anywhere. It absolutely ridiculous, if people are honestly that worried about piracy then there's surely other ways to do it without throwing free speech and 3/4 of the internet out the window.

Ted Stevens. In defense of him that the quote has been taken slightly out of context. I do believe though that the Senate is old and their knowledge of the internet is minimal enough that for them to write this type of legislator and attempt to pass is, is outrageous.
"As of January 17, 2012, 3 senators are in their 80s, 21 are in their 70s, 38 are in their 60s"
That is pretty old. My grandparents are 65 and do not know how to work the internet on their new macs, all they do is access email and send pictures...even though my grandfather worked for NASA for many years then became a consultant for DARPA. Not saying that everyone is like this but jeeze.

I agree, imagine if Google had blacked out for a day, people would be complaining everywhere. But hey, at least they're supporting this and the protest efforts are being observed and recognised.
