Hi all. I want to give hopefuls an opportunity to ask questions and or for guidance on their Official Middleman application. We ask that only OMM's and staff respond to the inquiries posted here, in order to ensure that users get accurate responses.

So, if you have any questions about middlemanning, the benefits of being an Official Middleman, or are unsure about the application process, etc., feel free to post them.

While most questions will simply be answered in the thread, we will address some of the more common issues below.

    F.A.Q.

    Q. How are trades valued?

    • A. Trades are valued at the worth of the transaction. If the trade is RSGP for an account/item, the trade is valued at $X for every YM RS3/Rs07 GP(check HERE for rates.)

    Q. What if I hold both sides of the trade?

    • A. Doesn't matter. By convention, trades are always counted as the larger half of the transaction (even if you don't handle the larger half!).

    Q. I MM'ed an RS account for another RS account. How do I value this?

    • A. Trades that have no clear, objective value typically fall under the "anything up to $50" requirement. However, in the case of RS account trades, you can substitute the wealth on the accounts for the value. Ie, if one of the accounts has 200m gp on it, it counts as a $67 trade.

    Q. I received the seller's end of the trade, but then the buyer backed out. Since I was still trusted with "x" amount, can I use this trade for my application?

    • A. Unfortunately, incomplete trades open up too much room for abuse. So, only complete, successful trades may be used for the application.

    Q. The users wanted to do the trade in increments so even though the overall trade was 1000M RS3 GP for $500, we traded 200M for $100 five times. How is this valued as a proof?

    • A. For this type of scenario, the proof would only be considered a $100 proof because that is the most you were trusted with at one time.

    Q. I missed a screenshot of (insert requirement here), but I have everything else. Can I still use the trade for my application? What if my screenshot link is no longer working?

    • A. This is generally dealt with on a case-by-case basis, so you should contact the Head OMM to find out whether that trade is still acceptable. Keep in mind that your application will be weaker if you're missing one of the required screenshots for too many trades.

I noticed in the Application process thread is states: "Skype trades now allowed" - I'm guessing this means you can include trades that weren't conducted on Sythe itself but initiated on other notable black marketplaces? As long as the required information can be presented, you may use those trades within your application. Is that correct? Also, I've collectively been a middleman for over 400 trades during the past couple of years but screenshots of actual goods being received/given are scarce and never stored for long, due to the fact that I ensured pertaining chat-logs always contained sufficient information and images were discarded of once the chat-logs indicated the trade's completion. I've never been one to bask in the glory of screenshots and shove the fact that someone's entrusted me with a substantial amount in other user's faces. I'm just wondering why/whether the application may specifically "be weaker" if trade images cannot be provided, but exact prices/trade details are stated within chat-logs/vouches/posts etc? I'm assuming it's merely a tedious hurdle to prevent users from falsifying trades in order to achieve OMM status? Thanks in advance.

    Hey Kez!

Actually, what this initially meant was that trades using Skype logs are now able to be used as proof. Before this rule was implemented, Skype logs weren't initially allowed because I guess there wasn't much understanding behind the system of viewing profiles to ensure someone is who they say they are simply because everyone was used to using MSN. Obviously this has changed over the years/

This does NOT mean that you can use trades from other sites simply because you used skype to conduct the trades. It simply meant that skype trades are now accepted alongside MSN trades. This is somewhat of an unnecessary statement now as the two are one and I'm gonna go ahead and remove it so that this doesn't cause confusion later on.

The reason so many photos are required/requested is because as sad as it is to say, day by day scammers are becoming trickier in their annoying tactics with middlemanning. These photos show that you're taking the necessary precautions to ensure you're trading the right user and that you aren't lazy and will do everything it takes to ensure the safety of the trade you are assisting in.

Also, yes it is a hurdle to prevent users from falsifying trades. The OMM title/rank is a big one on Sythe.org and it doesn't come easy. Anyone who isn't willing to do something as small as taking photos throughout an entire trade of basically every small (yet important) detail, doesn't really deserve it.

Not that you wouldn't deserve it, just wanted to support/further explain your comment about it being tedious :p

When posting an OMM application, can I simply post screenshots of the trades and vouches? I would rather not post screenshots of the entire group chat as that can be tiresome. I don't see why a screenshot of the group chat would be necessary aside from the users saying trade completed. Please let me know.
