[APPROVED/REVIEW] Sythe Book Club

Not an actual book club, but a section either in off-topic or Media for users to post book reviews, recommendations, or ask for suggestions about what they should read based on their interests. We have a music and anime section already and I believe a book section would be just as or more successful.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Would you personally visit this section?

It could include a 'What are you currently reading?" and a "Post your favorite read" sticky for users who want to post/recommend a book without having to type out a full review. This would make the quality of actual threads better

 

I actually love this idea, personally it has been a while since I cared about books, and it is sad. I used to read a lot and it helped pass the time. When it comes down to it, it would be nice as an off section discussion. I think this section would be nice for allowing us to connect in another sense, this forum in general is lacking connections, so yes please! @ShipTheFlip thanks!

 

I like the idea, I just wonder if it will have activity, not many people read books nowadays.

I do of course concede that there is a chance that the section could be a dud, however I believe most of the more active members of the site are in their mid-early 20s with many college students, a demographic b that recognizes the value in picking up a book.

might be active first week but will die out quick imo.

i personally would post one time to say my favorite book then probably never go back. I do not read books anymore.

I support this idea, and I am sure they are many users who browse this forums that would love to discuss about a book or two.

I also support this, however I don't know how I feel about books. No offense, but the majority of Sythe won't read a book FOR a Sythe book club. And on top of that, many users of Sythe have probably not shared common reads. What I think would be cool is every 2-3 days users (maybe CDT?) post an article that's a short read. Controversial or not, there should be a thread about that "weekly" or "daily article". I know there's "Something for All" sub-forum but I feel like if a weekly topic sat in Community General it would be much more engaging.

Read the OP friend, it's not an actual book club as in "this week we're reading ___ by ___ and we'll discuss at the end of the week," it's just a section where we can post about something we've read recently, give a description as long or brief as you want, and suggest it to other users / discuss it with people who have already read it. Other things can happen in the section, maybe threads for popular genres of books where people can post a good book from that genre (for example @Charlotte likes sci-fi/utopian novels and could probably post a sci-fi book thread and fill it with posts herself).

As for your other suggestion, I like that as well. Anything to get people reading and exchanging ideas.

 

Yes, but I feel as if without scheduled posts there will be legitimately no participation. It sounds cool in theory, but think if it was actually implemented.

For the part I bolded, do you mean like the person who read the book also leads a discussion?

 

Nah, everything in parentheses was just an example. I just meant maybe for popular genres their could be threads, like "Mystery Novel Discussion" thread or something like that. Just speculating what kind of content we could have in a book section.

Think it will have little to no activity but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t add this section.

I have a few books in mind and I think it will bring up an interesting discussion.

 

Tbh even just having threads for specific genres is a nice idea. Having those in OT would be lost easily.

I have moved this to pending, as I will see what we can get added (if anything). I think a book club would definitely an interesting thing to add, I do not see any negative impact that it could cause.
