    My little cousin has hydrocephalus

My little 10 year old cousin has to have brain surgery every two years and its becoming more and more often. She was born with hydrocephalus which is where your born with your brain submerged in liquid. One of the valves in her head is snapped and she has to have frequent matienence on a metal shunt in her head. She seems to be like a normal little girl and loves cheer leading, though because of her condition she probably won't be able to ever again. My aunt and uncle don't know how to tell her because they know it'll break her heart. Pretty soon she's going to have to stop all rigorous physical activity and she doesn't understand why. She recently movedher head abruptly and snapped her shunt causing her to get brain surgery for the third time in 2 years. She had to get over 20 staples in her head and was crying to me about it and told me she didn't want to ever have it happen again and I just felt awful. She had just gotten hers taken out too. Does anyone know anyone with this aweful condition or has a younger relative going through trauma?

Wow, gratefully I can say that anything of this proportion has never directly effected me in my life that I could fully comprehend.

My cousin had leukemia when I was younger but I couldn't comprehend this during that time.

All I can say it just try your best to comfort her, introduce her to some non-rigorous games. Chess, Computer Gaming, anything that would keep her from hurting herself again. Also if anything try your best not you explain what's going on to her. You wouldn't want to say something that would upset the parents.

If it keeps her alive than it shouldn't matter what you have to tell her.
