School allowed to do this?!

Well, yesterday our teacher was out, and we had no sub, so the teacher from the other classroom had to keep watch on us. Yesterday we also had a test in said class, and occasionally the teacher would check on us if we were cheating.

So, my friend and I both finished the test first and go to our next class. Turns out, one kid was caught cheating and said "Why should i get in trouble if everyone else cheated" ( Only about 4 other students cheated ) and since our dean of students is as lazy as he is, he gave us all 0% on that test even to those who legitimately took the test and earned out grades. Also, we are no longer "honors" track/class due to this.

Best part here, i would of gotten a 100% + extra credit ( 10% ) when the teacher actually graded it, it was the highest in the class. How can I be accused of cheating when i have the fucking highest test score?

So here is my question, is this allowed? Due to one person all of us are punished? What should i do?

Take this to the Principal.

If your Principal doesn't straighten it out, take it even higher.

EDIT: The school isn't allowed to do this, as the persons actions did not have ANYTHING to do with you.

 

Yea, that's pretty strong right there. The teacher can't not benefit you're grade just because other students aren't smart enough to think for themselves. Just tell him that you're going to take it to the Board of Education and mention this to your parents. I'm sure he'll come around.

 

Yup it's allowed. Get over it. Take one for the team; you should have made sure people don't cheat. Who would you appeal it to anyways, if it was the dean who gave you all 0's...I'm sure someone will knock the bajeezus out of the kid, though - maybe then he'll admit that only he cheated. Ah well, you'll live...it's one test, and I'm sure the dean will over-rule his decision when he gets to the bottom of things. But yes, in theory I don't think there is anything you, or anyone else, can do to stop him.

Anyways, most teachers have the power to give the kids whatever the fuck grades they want through participation or some other random bullshit.

The school is most definitely allowed to do it. Most schools make you sign shit saying that you are responsible for everyone else in your class. Is it fair? No. But is it legal? Yes. Have you ever played a team sport? Because I'm pretty sure when one person does something awful, the whole team has to pay (if your team was serious at all, anyways). It's like that in school.

 

Um of course not. They're certainly allowed to, in fact they can do almost anything related to grades, but this is the sort of thing that can be debated. Why should you be in charge of making sure no one else cheats? Why should they even listen to you if you tell them not to cheat? People do whatever they want, and you took the test and passed, therefore you should pass; it seems obvious. I would argue this to the Supreme Court.

 

That one test ruined my straight A's, i'm quite pissed.

On the other side, what should i do, i would very much like to get the grade a deserved.

It doesn't need to be in SFA, IMO.

Bring your parents into this by scheduling an appointment to meet with the dean to talk about your grade in the class. Mention the fact that it was not your fault that the teacher was gone and that other students were cheating.

Thats bullshit and at least in Australia, its not allowed.

If you complain to the principle, most likely he'll make a teacher re-write the test to make it different but still cover all critera and then make you re-do that test. Which i know is complete bullshit since you did not cheat and got the highest score etc. But it still beats getting 0%, the education system is fucked up in my opinion.

 

Unfortunately, schools can do just about whatever they want if they claim it to be for your welfare.

 

Yes, but if we do get a retake which is said to be HIGHLY unlikely, it will average with our 0%, meaning i can only get a 50%, that's still fucking bull shit.

 

Nah, you re-do your 0% test so that mark is like over-written so it won't be averaged with it or anything.

When stuff like that happens in Australia you just re-do the test and it doesn't get averaged, you just get the mark from the re-sit instead of the 0%.

 

Well, from that i can conclude one thing.

Dude every school is different they can give you a 0% if they suspect the class is cheating.And also if you are doing the HSC you may even fail it.

 

Write a complaint to the board of Education that your school comes under. They will have an inquiry probably.

 

just complian you shouldnt have to pay for someone elses mistake.
dont give in intil you get your point across.

 

that is not fair. you shouldn't get zeros. instead they should have everyone retake the test
